A Key Solution

When couples attach their love lock to the old Red Bridge, they have traditionally tossed the key into the Blue River below to lock their love. But that turns out to be bad for the environment. So now they have a box for the keys. In the future an artist will melt the collected keys and shape the molten metal into a monarch butterfly sculpture. The organization Monarchs on the Move has taken on the project in conjunction with the Kansas City parks department. Apparently the river's ecosystem is fragile and important to the healthy migration of monarch butterflies in their annual treks to and from Mexico.
