Cindy, Morgan, Jeanne McMonigle and I took up a position at 89th and Metcalf to join the throng from 75th St to 119th along Metcalf to protest yet again. We had some younger faces this time and some interesting signage as always.
I commandeered some church ladies to help make the palm crosses for Sunday. We used to have them every year but that tradition got lost somewhere along the way. And since we use the leftovers for Ash Wednesday ashes, it seemed important to bring it back. We had fun and created 100 crosses!
Christina Silvius sat on the grass to perform an improvised soundscape with amplified viola and mixing it with electronics in the arboretum at Linda Hall Library. When I signed up for a free ticket I pictured a peaceful afternoon under the trees. But the blooms froze last weekend and there was no shade and, well, 87 degrees. You can see below the audience was a ways back trying to find shade. She is a tiny speck by the stone walls.
Spring break Gammy swim brought lots of smiles. Lowell and Adam loved the lazy river (we couldn't synchronize them going by at the same time) and Vala and Colin went for the squeeze toys.
This crossing guard at Tomahawk embraces the holidays to enliven the kids' journey walking to school. Happy to see he wore his St. Pat's apparel before school dismissed for spring break.
Colin and I visited the Linda Hall Library to see the flying dragon and the Alchemy of Knowledge exhibit. We struck out on both counts as the dragon wasn't flying and was way above him. And the exhibit doesn't open until Friday. But he did find a book he liked in the stacks.
Adam celebrated his 7th birthday with a party at the park that included science experiments. Here they are inflating balloons after adding baking soda to water bottles. Below, the hilarity followed an exploding bag of colored water.
The wind caused problems when Adam attempted to blow out his candle. And below he proudly showed me his new fitness band.
