Explosive Fun

Adam celebrated his 7th birthday with a party at the park that included science experiments. Here they are inflating balloons after adding baking soda to water bottles. Below, the hilarity followed an exploding bag of colored water.
The wind caused problems when Adam attempted to blow out his candle. And below he proudly showed me his new fitness band.

Playground Loses a Tree

Instead of children playing on the Meadowbrook Park Treeline Adventure, a large team of tree guys was removing a tree that towers over it. They picked a day when the fog kept kids away. Too bad about the tree because it is already an unpleasantly hot playground for us grandmas in the summer watching kids play and now there won't be shade.

Hanging at the Press Table

Dad looking quite dapper at the press table in the Kansas House. Last year they banned the press from their traditional spot, banishing them to the gallery to report. Apparently that is still true.

Wonders Await

Science City always entertains. Colin enjoyed the giant kaleidoscope, the moving terrain and the slide especially.

Are We Making Ourselves Clear?

Apparently patrons at the Prairie Village post office do not understand what a USPS package is. Seems like they have now made it clear.

The Rest of the Story

Peter Cook, Titanic historian presented an interesting talk at Union Station about the chronology of the Titanic, from its inception until its demise. Fascinating. Below is a ticket for a steerage passenger. Cost of the ticket would have been $40 then and $350 today, adjusted for inflation. A first class suite ticket would be about $400,000 today.

The Tree Wins

This sidewalk has been fixed so many times but it always buckles. I think these patches are attempts to make it easier for strollers but we always go in the street.

Morning Glory

An awe moment from Mother Nature. I could see glimpses but Hayden provided the full glory.

Olympians in Training

Stacy (in turquoise) was participating in an exhibition at Somerset School. She did not continue her training long enough to make it to the Olympics. 😎 1986

Too Cold to Eat?

We couldn't get the fish to come to the surface to eat. Colin thought it might be too cold. They are outside but under a plastic roof.

Modern Age of Classical Music

This Graduate Fellowship String Quartet from the UMKC Conservatory was the pre-entertainment for a Trailblazing presentation we saw at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. They were excellent but I was fascinated that in this modern time, the musicians were playing music from their iPads.

Pancake Flipping

When it was time for the pancake competition at church, my grandchildren jumped right in.
