Before the Wedding

Easter, a few weeks before our wedding. In celebration of our anniversary next Wednesday I decided to show us in something besides our wedding apparel.

More Gimmick Than Historic

This new house is being marketed as historic because it sits on the site of the original Thomas Nall homestead. Built in 1890 (below), the original had fallen into disrepair and couldn't be restored. The new home (at 4809 W 68th Street) has rustic floorboards and hardware that mimic the style of the Nall house but much has been modernized. Thomas and his brother, John (whose home is at 67th and Nall), bought 240 acres encompassing 67th to 71st and Woodson to Roe in 1859 from the Shawnee Indians. Some artifacts discovered during excavation for the new house were on display. I toured the house when it went on the market. It's yours for a mere $2 million.

We start them young at Colonial - bringing the nursery population to participate in the Palm Sunday parade. Lowell thought it was great fun. Finn and George were a bit more reticent.

A hilarious parody of the Friends TV show in the Starlight Theater stage house. I was happy to find that I knew almost everything they were mocking. Wouldn't be too funny if you didn't.

We were colorful on Easter in 1992 (April 19, 1992 to be precise) but look reasonably good, except for my idiotic hairstyle. Apparently Dad was taking the picture.

Each year I think these trees look like daisy trees (I believe it is actually a royal star magnolia). The flowering trees are especially beautiful this spring.

Our friend Bill Rose's latest creation in progress - Patrick Mahomes with a gold underlay. It doesn't have a buyer but he's enjoying creating it and said Clark Hunt has expressed interest and he hopes Mahomes will be as well. We caught up with Bill at his studio in the Crossroads during First Friday.

Different Theories on Egg Hunting

Stacy would hunt until she found every egg and Hayden would stop and eat the first egg she found. Fortunately for Hayden, they always had to evenly divide the eggs after the hunt.

What to Do with An Old American Flag

Flag retirement drop boxes like this one at the VFW on 75th Street in Overland Park are provided by VFWs to allow the community to properly dispose of worn, torn and faded American Flags in a respectful manner. The American Legion burns the flags in a Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags as a dignified tribute to the U.S. flag and to its symbolism.

Gentle Touch

Lowell was learning to be gentle with Cousin Adam. As you can see below, despite her small size Lowell looms large next to Adam.

Curiously this girl chose to wear her fox costume to church and hence to the Children's Conversation. I'm sure it was easier for her parents to just let her wear it.
