The Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, lighthouse originally consisted only of the rear light which you can dimly see at the top of the back building. But ships continued to run aground so they added the front light. Ships set the course by positioning the back (white) light and the front (red) light and could safely navigate the shoals. Built in 1869, both were decommissioned by the US Coast Guard in1969 but have since been restored. |
