Cute But Impractical

I like the concept of this water bottle supporting the Chiefs. But I don't see how you could hold it to drink out of it. It's huge.

That'll Fix It

While duct tape can be used in amazing ways, I'm not sure it's the solution when your brick comes loose.

70 Years of Ministry

Yesterday afternoon we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the ordination of Rev. Dr. Art Foster. He was ordained in Toronto in 1948. He has served as interim minister at Colonial and also been a member in his retirement. He will be 96 years old in December and is still very active in many facets of the church and the community. Amazing!

This Is Not a Refuge

Another Open Spaces KC piece. This one, by Pakistan-born, Indianapolis-based artist Anila Quayyum Agha, is on the grounds of the Kansas City Art Institute. It is supposed to be soothing and challenging at the same time and reflecting on the global plight of war refugees. Not sure I see that but it's lovely.

Unclear

I went to take Union Station bathed in red for Red Friday but instead had a mixed message of a green building with the Chiefs emblem, and of course the purple fountain. Seemed to be conflicted on what we were promoting.

Bait and Cheese

Stopped behind this car I was intrigued by Pumpkin Bait and Cup of Cheese Evolution. When I got home I searched and discovered there is a woman who owns a company that appears to make lures and her nickname is cupofcheese. Not particularly enlightening but fascinating.

Sun vs. Shade

Choosing the correct plants for a planter makes a huge difference. The one below is in full sun while the one above is in shade, both in the Prairie Village Shops so getting the same care. Choose wisely.

Gammy Day Care

I found myself taking care of both Lowell and Finn yesterday. Trying to get a photo of them was like herding cats – a challenge to keep Finn in place, to get Lowell to look at me, etc. But it was a fun day.

Have a Nice Day

Over the last few years, someone at this house has been giving away zinnias from their garden. They put them in the green bucket you can see at the top right. The signs have gotten more professional so I suspect the child is getting older. I have never caught anyone in the act of putting the flowers out.

Knit a Bike

This bike that is covered in knitting is part of a knit-in done early in the summer as part of Art in the Loop. You can also see that the streetcar stop has a large knit project in its display and the trash has a knit cover.

To Raise a Bridge

You can see the bright orange weights that were used to raise the center of the old ASB (Armour-Swift-Burlington) Bridge to allow ship traffic on the Missouri River. The bridge, built in 1911, has been replaced but it was a marvel of engineering in its day. Viewed from the Riverfront Heritage Trail at sunset.

Start with the Old

The Shawnee Mission East Class of 69 was one of the early entries in the annual Lancer Day Parade. Not sure why since the 50th is next year. Then the Lancer and, of course, the band.
