An often unnoticed part of Kansas City is the Linda Hall Library. It has been engulfed by UMKC but is not part of the university as it existed first. Linda and Herbert Hall (below) were childless and decided to create a library legacy with their wealth from grain. They didn't want to compete with the public libraries so after research, they created a science, engineering and technology collection. It is on the site of their home at 51st and Cherry. Linda requested that nothing be named after her but alas, she died first so her request was ignored. |
