Turn Around Don't Drown

The rain early yesterday morning when Cindy and I walked was intense. Flood warnings were warranted. We actually walked under the shopping center awning so I saw this on my way home.

Not the Only One

I discovered that many others thought a trip to the garden center was a good idea. While the line was long it moved quickly. I contemplated coming back but it doesn't seem like this will change for a few weeks. However, if I was the woman in the gray shirt with one plant, I probably would have rethought it.
 

On the Pitch

Lowell (kicking the ball) had her last game of the spring soccer season. They won handily.
 

First Stoplight

At Paseo and Linwood is the first traffic light installed in Kansas City, vintage 1921. Still working! At the time this was a major intersection. Looks like it's had some vehicles get a bit too close.
 

Wait and See

The pot between the garage doors is planted. Now I wait to see what thrives.
 

Blue Knights

Stacy played trumpet (far left) in the SM East Blue Knights, a jazz band. Each year they had a big Jazz Night. I can't recall where this one was but the portraits on the wall behind are interesting. April 1996

Colin enjoyed sand surfing and pond hopping. 

Rolling Fun

We visited Moon Marble to see the marble games of old and to watch a marble being made.

 

The Load Got Heavier

The last time Joseph had passengers on the piano he only had Adam and Colin. This time Lowell and Vala joined the ride. Made it a bit more unwieldy. 
 

Retreating

Great group of women on our weekend retreat at the Heartland Retreat Center. We were delayed by weather but it worked out OK.

Assistant Instructors

The child watch folks didn't show up so my water aerobics instructor was kind enough to entertain the girls by having them up front demonstrating. Vala said it was best day ever and Lowell now wants to go to class with me every time so worked out for us all.

Spalshing into Spring

At 85 degrees, we deemed it warm enough for the splash pad. Always pleased to have something work after winter storage. And of course a treat.

Vala looked so cute in her bunny glasses.

 

A Welcome Fragrance

I was quite pleased to find some blooming lilacs. Many of the bushes appear to have brown buds due to the harsh freeze a while back. It is my favorite fragrance.
 

Rushton Run

Adam participated in his school Fun Run. He's waiting with other 1st and 2nd graders to start. He ran well. Colin thought he would try it, too, after the big kids finished.

 

Splash Down

I've enjoyed the voyage of Artemis II to the moon and back and was especially happy to watch them return safely (via my TV). It's been a long time since we've had this kind of fun.
 

Let the Hunt Begin

The 2026 Parade of Hearts is underway. This is one of the first to be placed and we discovered it on our early morning walk in the Shops of Prairie Village. This year they are hollowed center hearts. Artist Paige Crosswhite was inspired by vintage toile patterns. I do love the hunt.

 

The First Grandchild

My niece Debbie, the first grandchild, was born 51 years ago today.
 

Look Out!

Colin is about to age out of the indoor playground but he finally will power himself around in these cars. Usually he is off to crash into whatever he can find. He does love a crash.
 

Go Royals!

Adam is wearing his new favorite piece of clothing - a Royals sweatshirt he received for his birthday. The flags cooperated by standing straight out.
 

Easter 2026

The Kerns boys were dapper in their ties. Everyone was colorful.

Winter Bunnies

We missed the warm weather but visited the Plaza bunny menagerie. Adam added a stocking cap under his baseball hat because of the cold wind. We still enjoyed the outing. Happy Easter!

Stations of the Cross

Vala and I visited the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. She made a cross, put a bandaid on Christ's cross and added spices for wrapping Jesus. She found it fascinating on whatever level she received it.

Lone Survivor

My viburnum took a hit in that hard freeze a few weeks ago. Normally it would be covered with fragrant blossoms. But I am grateful for this one. The photo below gives you some perspective.

 

Splendidly Attired

We were in our Easter finest in 1960. Of course, Susan, Cindy and I were in matching dresses. I'm sure they were scratchy. 

 

Taking It All the Way

Colin and I rode the full new KC Streetcar route, out to UMKC and found the heart at the end.

Then we completed the loop at the Kansas City Central Library where they gave him some cool glasses.
