21st Century Hopscotch

Kati Toivanen painted this elaborate hopscotch board in Ilus Davis Park as part of the Art in the Loop project. It features childhood toys to give "an opportunity to reflect on the role of parks in childhood." It's there until September. You can see more detail below.

Good Times in Shawnee

We went to try Big Bam's Burgers, which I had heard about, and blundered into a large food truck festival in Shawnee. Lots of folks. Thought you all might appreciate seeing the old Aztec Theater facade too.

Visible Humidity

No rain but lots of droplets in the morning.

I Like Rocky

In light of all the politics, I thought this was fitting. Back in 1968, Ingrid and I dressed for a Nelson Rockefeller rally. Don't actually recall that or where we went in this attire. Ingrid's outfit is especially interesting. Gotta love the slippers.

World Series Glory

Stacy and I visited the 2015 trophy at the Royals Hall of Fame at the stadium last night. Game wasn't so good but fun to see the trophy again.

Feline Conservatory

The cat hanging out the window caught my attention. It's representative of the Cedar Cover Feline Conservatory and Education Center in Louisburg, KS. Cedar Cove is a non-profit organization devoted to the care and preservation of endangered large cats "while educating the public on their behavior, physiology, habitats and the threats and dangers of extinction."

An Amazing Day

Hayden was a beautiful bride and Stacy gorgeous as maid of honor. I was off photo duty so good photos will come later. Below Matt and Hayden were getting instructions for a photo at the Mahaffie homestead where the reception was.

Rehearsal Bouquet

Classic Lobby

I love the look of the Commerce Bank lobby downtown but it was a bit of a ghost town. No tellers and no one at the desks on a weekday morning.

Perfect Lighting

These windows near the south entrance to the sanctuary at work were perfectly lit when I walked by. They depict Old Testament stories. In case you're curious, the left is Moses discovered floating in the bulrushes by Pharoh's daughter. The center is Ruth with her mother-in-law, Naomi, going to Judah. The right shows Esther pleading for her people at the feet of King Ahasuerus.

Cloud Art

The clouds have been amazing at sunset lately. I particularly like this one because of the sliver of a moon near the top of the photo.

Not Quite Right

The shopping center is being renovated so the crew has created these signs to help you find businesses while the signage is not up. This is pointing to the physical therapy company. Creative with the "Y". It's like if you make it big enough, you'll see that it's part of therapy too.

No Place Is Safe

Hayden posed with a full-size black bear at the home of our book club host. Her husband was the hunter in his youth and her in-laws had it delivered to their house because they needed space.

Storm Casualty

The vicious thunderstorm that passed through early yesterday took out power and a few trees. No surprise that this one is a Bradford pear. It's not if but when they will come down. Looks like it missed the house. Our power was out for 5 hours beginning at 4:58 a.m. Made getting to work a lot like camping.

Queen Anne's Lace is a wildflower that always reminds me of childhood summers. Did you know it was introduced from Europe and is the forerunner of the carrots we eat today? Just a little trivia.

My friend sent me this sign from Starlight. Saw these signs many times as house manager but never had one with "garter belts." Love it.

Missions Chaos

The mission team from Kentucky that is staying at work has spread out all over and leaves chaos each morning when they head out to work. They do good work but we can't use any of the rooms during their stay. The 60 youth and chaperones are there for the week.
