Finding Just the Right Spot

The interesting thing about visiting the Habitat for Humanity ReStore outlets is the odd things you find. They had two sets of these four-seat sections of chairs. Just what would you do with these?

What Do You See?

When I look at this window, I see a bear face. The yellow pieces are the eyes. It's part of the window below. Once I saw that, I haven't been able to see it any other way.

Dolls on Parade

The Bluebird Doll Parade. I'm holding the Hawaii sign and Cindy and Susan are behind me. I like the flower in Mom's hair. We marched proudly down Johnson Drive. I was looking for video of the parade but couldn't find it but I did find this fabulous video of Susan and I dressed for the parade attempting to jump rope.

Jack and the Beanstalk

This was our team for Trivia Night - Fairy Tale version. You can probably tell who was Jack. The rest of us were dressed in green to go with the beanstalk, which you can see in the middle of the table. Hayden did a very good job creating it but unfortunately we couldn't hang it so it wasn't as obvious as we would have liked. Stacy was absent as she was ill. We had a great time but our score did not reflect our enthusiasm.

Wind Fun

What a delightful wind decoration! Lots of old street signs.

Brightening the Winter Gloom

These tennis courts are richly colored and were a bright spot on a gloomy day.

Glancing Blow

We had a lovely coating of ice yesterday morning but fortunately it melted quickly. Not near the problem that had been predicted.

Incongrous

Seems wrong for there to be a purple KU license plate.

Signs, Signs, Everywhere Are Signs

My niece, Erin, has her signs up in Roeland Park. She has long been encouraging women to run for office so decided to take the plunge herself.

String of Ice

What looks like a string or wire hanging down is actually a very long icicle. (photo of Howard)

Spring and Winter

A taste of spring to offset the snow out the window. Howard brought these home for Valentine's Day.

Olaf Snow Angel

Another Cantruction entry that is easier to identify from above is Olaf (of Frozen fame) making a snow angel.

Year of the Goat

The Chinese New Year was celebrated at the Nelson-Atkins Museum Friday night. While we didn't make those festivities we saw the remnants yesterday.

Lock Your Love

The Old Red Bridge in Kansas City is a popular place for the trendy Love Locks. You can find all types from engraved to handwritten. We noticed the engraved seem to be holding up much better than the hand lettered. If you don't come prepared, you can apparently buy one from the nearby Minor Park Golf Course pro shop. It will be lit tonight if you want to go lock your love.

Mysterious Mosaic

It's probably only mysterious to me, but this mosaic and a similar one have been mounted on the wall of the Jones Store (now Macy's) in Prairie Village for years. But I can find nothing about their origin. I wonder how many people even notice them.

Happy Valentine's Day

A fabulous photo taken at Crown Center in 1988.

50 Shades

We saw 50 Shades The Musical on the Starlight Theatre stage last night. It was a musical parody of the book and quite funny.

Cats and Stripes

Enjoying the afternoon sun makes for an interesting pattern. Zoe is very relaxed.

Canstruction 2015

No surprise that the Royals are the subject of some of the entries. This year the creations are on display at Oak Park.

Wagons Ho

A segment of the southern branch of the Santa Fe Trail crosses Harmon Park in Prairie Village. It is one of the few confirmed places in Johnson County where physical evidence of the trail can be seen today. The swale was worn into the ground by thousands of cattle, oxen, and wagons.

Glacier Receding

The moderate temperature has caused the ice to melt, leaving debris it has pushed in its wake.

A New World

A new thing in globes - devoted to a city. The larger one is Paris and the one in the front is of New York City.

Story Time

I appear to have taken exception to the story and am disrupting Dad's reading. As before, I didn't crop the photo because there is just so much happening around us.

No Water to Drink

This bronze boar is looking at his frozen pond. Hope he's not thirsty. Interestingly, the statue has been in Prairie Village since 2000 when it was moved from KCI. His snout gets rubbed frequently so it's very shiny.

Flowing Ice

Vince and Associates leaves its waterfall on year-round so we get dramatic ice sculptures in the winter.

Frozen February

Welcome February - winter has arrived. We started the day with slush on the patio but the temperature and the north wind brought a frozen landscape by mid afternoon.

Lovetacular

Once again, we just make up a word. We have a lot of fine words if we would just use them.
