Gold Medal

Another entry in the Canstruction contest is this Olympic themed one with gold medal on the front and the Olympic rings on the back.

Looks Like Trouble

But how cute. Steve seems to be the only one looking at the camera. Must have been taken on a Saturday because Susie's socks wouldn't lie.

CANsas City

You can see the Kauffman Center, Union Station, Sprint Center, the Bartle Hall towers, etc., in this entry in the Harvesters Canstruction contest. The entries are on display at Ward Parkway Shopping Center. You can vote for your favorite. At the end of the contest, the cans are donated to Harvesters.

Do Not Run Into the Door

Apparently kids using the link like to run and then crash into the wall, behind which people are attempting to work. I suppose that could be disruptive but they won't be able to read this sign until they've already crashed into the door, as you can see below.

 

Jubilee Years

This is the Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome (photo by Stacy) that is only opened in a Jubilee Year, which I just learned about yesterday. This door was last opened in 2000 and will be opened next in 2025. Some references say a Jubilee Year only occurs every 50 years. The Holy Door symbolizes redemption of man’s sins and starting a new life. And that is the point of a Jubilee Year, to get a reset. How did I never know this? So I've already had at least one reset. Not sure I made the most of that.

The Abominable Snowman

Although he looks friendly, this snowman is much too large for this Lego scene. But then the people are a little over-sized for the building so we must allow creative license.

Nonfiction Books You Might Have Missed

Apparently none. A display Hayden is working on. One of her students found it reassuring that he had not missed any important nonfiction books.

A Spot of Color

The amaryllis I received for Christmas is blooming. Adds a bit of color to a dreary day.

Spelling Queen

The National Spelling Bee champion in 1978, Peggy McCarthy. As she was sponsored by the Topeka Capital, I accompanied her to Washington. I didn't, however, plan on her winning and taking all my free time for the follow up. (Her mother is seated and you probably recognize that guy in the back.)

Hi Tech Book Return

The central library now has this hi tech book return. You start your book in and it grabs it, scans it and checks it in. Way cool!

If you're not going to proofread, you might try spell check. Has no one yet noticed this error?

Might Be Awhile

...before this car is driveable. Apparently they haven't needed it for more than a week.

Trivia Smashdown

Some of my teammates for Trivia Night last night at our church. We didn't finish last, and we did rock the holiday round so it was a good night. Each group had to represent a holiday. Cindy had a box of St. Pat's stuff so that made our choice easy.

Snow Removal

The giant mounds in the parking lots make it hard for us in small cars to see around. This shopping center decided it wasn't melting fast enough, so they are hauling it off. Two bobcats and a dumptruck were making quick work of it.

Jabba the Snowman

Why be traditional when you can build this guy? He reminds me of Jabba the Hutt but he also looks a little like a melting snowman. However, there is most certainly no melting going on around here.

Not Quite

Here I stand at the curb at the end of the sidewalk from work and there seems to be quite a gap between it and the cleared roadway. Nice drift to walk through. No way around it. But in Kansas City It's just good that they plowed a side street. Can't be picky about them only going down the middle.

Sled Dog

Not sure who thought Bimbo would be willing to pull the sled. I shall give Scott credit for this although Cindy is also a likely suspect. I don't sense that Bimbo has any intention of moving.

Snow Crew

These high school guys did a fabulous job of clearing our driveway. If you'll recall, last year I declared I was done with major snow removal. I'll be calling them again.

Nothing Is Simple

Now when your child goes to Sunday School at work, they must be signed in, tagged, and you have to have an approved, color-coded card to pick them up. Gone are the days when they could leave en masse after the children's conversation without their parents.

Pond Circles

A frozen version of crop circles, sort of. I think it's interesting that this pond has these circles. The one in the forefront is usually a fountain. Maybe the others are drains, or something.

10 Ton Mirror

I don't actually recall the weight of this mirror but I remember it was a lot. The mirror sterling silver and was toted back from Venice in the early 20th century. I found the story fascinating. It hangs now in a condo off Mission Road.
