Staff Appreciation

We each received an arrangement as part of staff appreciation by the Flower Committee at work. Certainly brightened up my office.

Tiled Staircase

Actually, the risers are not tiled but stenciled. A woman at my office and her mother did this at the mother's home.

Why Fix It?

Why not just post a caution sign and leave the broken shards of glass?

And the Emmy Goes To ...

It wasn't to Hayden but we were excited to actually see one up close. Jan Parkinson won it in 1990 for the Hallmark Hall of Fame production of "Caroline?" and he had it at church as part of a presentation he was making to our youth.

Wind Casualty

Our neighbor's fence fell victim to our intense winds. When she and her dad tried to fix it, another piece fell. Apparently it has some issues.

Blush at Dusk

We've had some powerful sunsets lately.

Ice Straw

Apparently someone's drink froze in their car in these extreme temperatures so they just dumped it out. Holding its form nicely, even at mid-afternoon.

Government Service

Steve is with Dad and Gov. George Docking in 1959 in Topeka. You can tell he is paging in the Senate from his white button. (House pages had red buttons.)

Rising Ice

In the near zero temperatures yesterday morning, this fountain was building an ice base as the water continued to flow.

Is It Pink Enough?

No signs of Mary Kay on it so I think it's just a personal choice.

Bright Food

I was impressed by how colorful Hayden's mini pot pies were.

Can You See the Wind?

The real question is can you photograph the wind. I found it a difficult task. I'd be OK if it subsided for awhile.

Wedgie Free

It's good to know that you will be "wedgie free - no ride up" when reading this book. The sticker was stuck on the book when Hayden got it from the library.

Adding Finials

As exterior work on Country Club Christian Church nears completion, they are adding the replacement finials. Considering how high those are, this is not a job I would desire. The wire is anchoring the finials, not the workers. They are on their own.

Saving Mr. Banks

Actually Mr. Banks was not invited to this grouping of Mary Poppins characters in 1965. I don't recall what prompted this but I thought we did a fabulous job of re-creating the characters.

Shouldn't It Be Green?

The Topeka Capitol looks strange with its new copper dome. I'm so used to the oxidized green one that this looks wrong.

Decorating the Trash

Prairie Village decided to decorate the collection site for discarded Christmas trees. I don't know if these were thrown in with the trees and Public Works got creative or they just decided to be festive.

Personal Delivery

Why not use a bobcat for transportation? This guy looked comfortable enough. Good thing it was warm, relatively speaking.

Hazel and Friends

Hazel the miniature donkey with her friends Bluebell and Rascal at a farm outside Topeka. Our friends bought her as a companion to Bluebell. She holds her own with the big girls.

Soda Fountain in Miniature

Those who visited the soda fountain at the Kansas City Museum in years past will recognize it in this miniature from the miniature museum.

Deep Freeze

It looks relatively harmless in the late afternoon sun but then you looked at the temperature, and the windchill. And this morning it is -7 with a windchill of -24!

Red Friday

The Kauffman Center got in the act by lighting up in red. We'll see what the Chiefs do this afternoon.

New Year's Cake

In maintaining the tradition Mom started with a cake with a clock on it for lunch on New Year's Day, I found this one at the grocery store.
