Freaky Fruit

How about some Buddha's Hand? I don't know what it would taste like but it would look good on a Halloween buffet.

Anatomy of a Pocket Journal

The materials
The tools
And, presto, I made a journal. Not quite that quickly or that simply. But it was a great class offered by UMKC Communiversity.

Quantrill's Victim

As part of our haunted tour of Lawrence, they took us to Pioneer Cemetery where several of the victims of Quantrill's raid are buried. We didn't see any ghosts, although one girl was sure she had taken a photo of one. It looked more like the guy with the light hooded sweatshirt who was also on our tour but you see what you want to see.

Timber!!

We lost a tree in the high winds Thursday night. Safety Tree Service was quick to respond and take it out. While we are poorer, we feel lucky that it missed the chimney and windows.

In the Belly of the Whale

I took this from inside the whale they were creating at work for the story of Jonah. It was tall enough to stand up in. The fan is all it takes to inflate it. I was amazed.

Rotten Eggs

This is one of the entries in the Halloween food contest. They didn't taste any better than they looked although I think they were just supposed to be deviled eggs. The winner was Throw Up, which was a sausage dip that did look a bit like its name.

Before the Rain

We enjoyed the pageantry of the KU-Oklahoma State game before storms caused suspension of the game with 44 seconds left in the first quarter. As we were quite wet, we decided not to wait it out and to head home.

Movie with a View

We watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles on the hill north of the Liberty Memorial. It didn't start raining until the last 15 minutes but it was a light rain. The view of downtown was spectacular.

The statue of Roe Bartle stands with the colors of the Cerner conference, which opens today, behind him.

Here's Looking at You

This large photo is one of several adorning Bartle Hall this week as part of the Cerner Health Conference for which Stacy is project manager. The theme is "Because It's Personal" and the faces are Cerner clients. I was impressed at how large the photos were.

Pillowcase Dress

The sewing circle at work (whom I think average about 75 years old) make these cute dresses out of donated pillowcases and ship them off to Haiti, South Africa, Nicaragua or wherever a mission team is headed. They are very cute and durable. This one is headed to Haiti next month. They also sell the dresses in the gift shop to raise money to make more.

Which One Is Not Like the Others?

When painting the new markings on the parking lot, the painters apparently didn't notice that they flipped the stencils and put the wheelchair logos on backwards. They could have just looked at the sign on the wall.

Aged Pumpkin

I'm perplexed as to why they made the pumpkin gray with black trim. But I liked how it was positioned next to the empty pool.
