Meter Replacement

Our new meter, or rather the left part of the meter is new. Kansas Gas Service notified us Friday that we would be without gas on Saturday because they were replacing our meter. They said they would come inside and relight the furnace and water heater and check the lines when they finished. Since we were going to be gone all day, we would have to call them to come out after we got home that evening. Good news was they were so fast they did it before we left. Painless routine maintenance.

Looking from the Leaves

This scary thing was staring up at me in the dawn light on my walk. Rather startling.

Carnegie Library

Built in Parsons, KS, in 1909. Andrew Carnegie offered interested towns enough cash to build a library and in return, the town had to agree to provide an amount equal to 10 percent of that gift each year for upkeep, utilities and books. Maybe if it wasn't the middle of November, Santa would have children waiting to talk to him. Let's stop rushing the holiday.

Salute to Veterans

My father-in-law, Gordon Huggins, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross after losing a hand in World War II. The medal was awarded for extraordinary heroism against the enemy. He covered a live grenade with his body to save four companions in Sarrlautern, Germany on Feb. 7, 1945.

Found At Last

You know how you have an image of something from childhood but can't place it? I finally stumbled upon the theater where, I think, Dad took some of us to see Pajama Game when I was a kid. It's in the Nelson-Atkins Museum.
