It's Fixed

The plumbing, that is. Now we have a nice hole in the wall to repair. But the flood in the family room has ended. Seems your pipes don't all last 50 some years.

Ice Spray

This lovely frigid weather does create some interesting sights. This one is in Eisenhower Lake in Mission Hills.

Since the Beginning

Dorothy Mulford is the last of the Colonial Church charter members from 1949. We celebrated the church's 70th birthday yesterday with her as our guest of honor.

Snow Goons

I love the Calvin and Hobbes snowmen strips and these folks did a fine job of recreating one.

For the Hippy Birds

What a fun birdhouse. Not sure what type of bird fits in that hole but it should make a nice home hanging in a tree.

Battle of the Books

The 2019 Battle of the Books came down to a tie-breaker with one of the Hocker Grove teams winning. The Indian Hills team (above) gave them a run for their money.

New Homesteaders

The Fergusons on their new front porch. They are calling it the Ferguson Forty as they have 40 acres outside Eudora.

Neighborhood Support

This homeowner showed his support for the Chiefs and his hopes for a Super Bowl. Heck of a season that ended one game too soon.

Drink to the Chiefs

Shatto Milk Company has created this beverage for the Chiefs postseason run. It's flavor is red velvet. Don't know about that but I love the look.

Pro Bowl at Arrowhead

Me, sitting at Arrowhead for the Pro Bowl in January 1974. I remember it was rainy and cold, in the 30s. As I recall Scott, Dad and I went. I remember thinking this is really stupid sitting here for a game that doesn't mean much.

My Heroes

Note the guy high in the tree as well as the two on the ground and my power line going right through the middle of that hanging branch. They got the limb down without further dislodging the power line from the pole. Now we just have to get the meter back on the house. Thank you Safety Tree Service for the quick response and skill.

Snow Artistry

This fabulous snow sculpture appeared in front of the Nelson. It's as tall as me.

Gleaming Red

The shuttlecocks have joined the Chiefs support team, tinted for the occasion.

Down But Not Out

We started the day with limbs down and no power. By the end of the day we had power, a Chiefs win and quiet piles of snow.

Flying the Postseason Colors

Chiefs support is popping up everywhere.

Chiefs Monkey Business

Chiefs stuff is popping up all over. The organ grinder and his monkey on the Plaza are getting into the Chiefs postseason spirit.

As Tall as Them

Stacy and Hayden managed to build a snowman taller than them. I believe he's wearing a Chiefs scarf so seems appropriate at this time. Stacy seems to have lost her gloves.

Social by Nature

Photographer Ronan Donovan spoke at National Geographic Live at the Kauffman Center last night, talking about the social habits of animals in the wild like these gorillas in Rwanda. Seems most animals create a social fabric similar to humans.

Too Late

I learned of the extravagant nativity at the Nelson-Atkins only this week and when I went to check it out, the inhabitants had left and it was being stowed until next year. Note to self: go in early December in 2019.

Sydney Fireworks

Watching the Australia fireworks for New Year's reminded me that we had the pleasure of seeing them shot from the Harbor Bridge in 2007 while visiting Stacy. It was part of the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) conference that coincided with our visit.

Family Collage

I love my new photo wall.

We're Historic

You will notice that this guy at the Johnson County Museum looks like our snowmen of old, with slightly different paint (see Morgan snowmen). Seems others used the instructions, published in December 1954, in "Popular Mechanics" to make their decorations. I am amused that they added a white cloth under him to hide his support. I couldn't really see behind him to see how they propped him up. We should have donated our whole set!
