I almost missed this Jayhawk hanging out on the balcony.

Turkish Muslims from Dialogue Institute joined us at Colonial yesterday to serve us Baklava and promote interfaith communication. The woman in the brown headscarf made the delicious baklava.

A Sign of Good Taste

(You may remember that as a Coke slogan many years ago.) Coca Cola products coalesced into a Jayhawk!  Sorry our season ended too soon but I enjoyed the ride.  Thanks to Hayden for the photo.

You saw the inside. Here's the outside.

A KU Salute

Union Station is showing its support for the "local" team in the Midwest Regional in the great hall, or Sprint Festival Plaza. Outside it is saluting all 4 teams with its color display.

Photo Bomb

Mom's expression as she stepped into the photo is priceless! Stacy and Hayden don't know she's there.

Poised

This great blue heron has appeared on Ward Parkway. It's made from twigs and apparently originally graced a plaza in Boston before migrating here. The "sapling sculpture" is created to decompose over time by the The Myth Makers, two Boston area artists.

Good Neighbors

In three languages, "No matter where you are from, we're glad you're our neighbor." Nice but too bad it has to be stated.

From the Arch

A nice clear view of downtown from the Rosedale Arch.

Climbing Mt. Marty

I joined Stacy and her friends on a hike in Mt. Marty Park in Kansas City, KS. It's essentially the woods surrounding the Rosedale Arch. The hike was part of Let's Get Outside, a group organized by Lisa Donnelly to explore parks and nature preserves throughout Metro Kansas City once a month with families. It's slow going with the kids but they make so many discoveries along the way!

They Know Color

The Lao Buddhist Association of Olathe has a very colorful temple. It's an old house but they have dressed it up. I particularly like all the gold on the roof.

Fire and Music

This interesting sculpture graces the grounds at Johnson County Community College. Created by Dennis Oppenheim in 2000 and named Performance Piece, it is a fireplace with the chimney in a knot and bugles attached. My question is why?

With the frightful weather March is tossing at us, I went looking for spring inspiration and found it.

Not the Princesses You Think You Know

Three of the princesses - Snow White, Cinderella and Mulan - in "Disenchanted" on the Starlight stage. It was hilarious. Thanks to Hayden who gave me the tickets and accompanied me.

Book of Morgan

Kathleen and Scott gave us a tour of the newly renovated Lawrence Public Library (where Kathleen is Development & Strategic Partnerships Director) and showed us the tiles people created including one from their family. You can see it towards the right on second row up from the bottom.

Most Beautiful Libraries on Earth

The Lawrence Public Library, which opened in its current home in 2014, is #2 on WIRED Magazine's list of the "10 most beautiful libraries on earth." This is the modern facade of the 1972 building that was gutted and expanded. Its beautiful inside and out.

Art Everywhere

So many interesting pieces of art on the sides of buildings downtown if you just look. The tricky part is learning about them. This one at 19th and Walnut is by Sebastian Coolidge, who also has a line of clothing. Notice his last name is upside down and backward. That would be tricky to paint.

Back When We Had Snow

Stacy and Hayden enjoyed a snowstorm in the ancient times when it actually snowed a measurable amount. (Hope I haven't cursed us!)
