First Blooms

Despite the weird weather patterns, the end of February is the appropriate time for these guys. What I'm most excited about is that I thought they were dug up when the brick was repaired last spring so it's a welcome sight.

Running to Mardi Gras

The Mardi Gras 5K downtown included several runners in costume. The cold temperatures kept the crowd down but not the enthusiasm.

Trivia Titans

My trivia teammates this year at Colonial. While we didn't win, we did hold the lead for a time. Vast improvement above preivous years' finishes.

The Misfits

I love the new Misfit produce. It's misshapen or imperfect produce that used to be discarded by farmers as unsaleable. And it's cheaper! I bought lemons that are a bit under sized but otherwise great.

Artist in Residence

The office door across the hall has a display of the many posters I've been creating over the last week. A bit much to have them all together. It's the door of the person requesting them.

Ready to Rock

Steve is ready to play Freddie Slack's Boogie Woogie LP. Hope he's going to dance! I remember that record player well.

The Kansas City Public Library continues its book theme outside with a book bench.

Aum

That's an alternative spelling of the Hindu meditation mantra "Om." Take a moment and repeat Om until you find yourself soothed. Seems to be working for this guy.

The Market Is Always Open

It may be February, but the City Market looked like a normal summer morning.

Spice Merchant

Manning the spices outside Al-habashi Mart at City Market, he was eager to have his photo taken. Unfortunately I did not catch his name.

Avenging America

There are a couple of ways you can interpret that. This is one of the paintings featured in the art exhibit now gracing the hallway at work. This one is right outside my door and I find it's theology a bit disturbing. I've also learned that the face is that of the artist's son, which adds to the weirdness.

Broadway Meets the Cinema

We saw "Newsies" as a movie last night. It was shot onstage in Los Angeles with members of the original Broadway cast and was great. It was like having really good seats and perfect sound to see a live show. Loved it.

Holly just hanging around, with a little help from Howard. Happy 25th Birthday on Sunday.

Bird's Eye View

A view of the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport from Case Park. Reminds me of the view from the Hilton Inn back in the day when this was the main airport. I recall taking off from here many a time before KCI opened. Still a very busy place.

Showing the Love

These folks apparently decided to celebrate love for all the world to see. Happy Valentine's Day.

Surveying the Land

This statue of Lewis & Clark and Sacagawea is in Case Park because it overlooks the confluence of the Kaw and the Missouri. We thought it looked like Clark had a flip phone but I believe it's intended to be a compass.

A Step Above the Plaza

Rodney Thompson discussed his documentary "A Step Above the Plaza: Celebrating Westport's African American Community" last night at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. The film was shown as part of African American History Month. The questions and answers that followed were almost more interesting than the film. Apparently the area was created to give Blacks who were working in the homes and businesses in Westport and the Plaza a place to live. Most of the area has since been purchased by St. Luke's Hospital and razed.

Not a Fan

I love this photo of Hayden in the field on her first camping trip. Not sure why she is standing there crying but it speaks to her general feeling about camping, although she has been a good sport about it many times over.

A New Face on the Wall

This the portrait gallery at work of previous ministers. Glen Miles, who just left, was added yesterday. He's on the far left in the line.

Congratulations to Matt on completing his technical training. Nice to have him back home with Hayden after six months in Texas.

Concrete Eyes

What do you see? I think it looks like a bunch of eyes. Part of the Dowtown Loop art, on the side of a parking garage.

The Fabulous Five

If I don't say it, who will? Great gathering yesterday.

Icicle Tree

These folks didn't get their sprinkler turned off. Not sure why it would have been operational this time of year anyway.

Morning Design

Even without the glorious pink we get some mornings, I enjoyed this sky with the cloud patterns.

Stacy is again sitting by an uncle with an uncertain look on her face. Notice she was equally perplexed by Scott.

Loving Kansas City

Not sure of the significance of this art at 59th & Ward Parkway but I like it. I wonder if someone was distracted by it and crashed as the brick pillar has been demolished.
