Butch and Sundance

Cindy and I went to see the movie last night on the big screen as part of the classic series. What fun. Just as good as in 1969.

Nesting Snowmen

... and a penguin. Waiting for snow.

Is It Real?

A cell tower "tree." I suppose it looks better than an ordinary cell phone tower but the concept would work better in a forest where there were actually other trees like it.

Surprise on Stilts

How would you like to find a flock of flamingos wearing Santa hats in your yard?

Riding the Rails

Actually, it was the rails that were doing the riding. A very long train of train rails moving through Union Station.

Worlds of Fun Orient Express in Miniature

An exhibit of former Worlds of Fun roller coasters at Union Station included the Orient Express, which I remember specifically because I was convinced to go on it once. The whole upside down thing did not sit well with me. Inside the exhibit is Randal Strong-Wallace, who built the models, making some repairs. The Orient Express operated from 1980 to 2003, when maintenance apparently became too expensive. Also in the exhibit are operating scale models of Screamroller, Schussboomer, Zambezi Zinger and Silly Serpent.

Is It Static Cling?

Mannequin art is so intriguing.

They Look Like Shoes

But it turns out they are garden decor.

Waiting for Snow

This dude just needs some snow around him. He's about 7 feet tall.

Sunset last night. Enough said.

Get the Scoop

My new favorite utensil - a cookie dough scoop. The funny part is I just re-discovered it because Stacy gave it to me awhile I go and I put it in a drawer and forgot about it. You can also use it for mini muffins.

Peeping M&M

The M&M inflatable is either a peeping tom or he's in timeout.

The Anti-Vac

The vacuum started spreading dirt instead of sucking it in. Unfortunately they kept vacuuming for awhile before they noticed. Left quite a trail.

Not sure you can see it but this pile of mulched Christmas trees is steaming. Apparently as it decomposes, you can see the steam rising in the cold.

Mum Cross

I never know what will appear at work.

Floating Fruit

A new take on jello salad. This one is fresh fruit in a clear gelatin. Tastes delicious and looks good as well.

Staying Power

I decided to step out of the box this Christmas and ordered this poinsettia from the youth fundraiser. In the past I've always been a purist - red and red only. But this one is beautiful and still going strong more than a month later.

Corn Blasting

As part of the renovation at work, they are corn blasting the protective coating on the stained glass windows because it has become clouded. They use corn instead of chemicals for environmental reasons and also because it's a dry process. The things you learn. I wonder if they still have to clean it up or just let it decompose? There's a lot of it.

Mop Bucket Brigade

I looked out my office door and it looked as if the mop buckets were advancing. Turned out the crack maintenance team had washed the tiny strip under them and placed them there to keep people from stepping on their work. Seems a bit of overkill.

Sun Music

Syd found the piano to be a good place to enjoy the afternoon sun.

The Snowman

Holiday decor is put away and it's time for snowmen. A favorite is The Snowman from the book by the same name by Raymond Briggs. It's a great children's book without words.

She Wore Blue

Actually, whatever you wore would look blue in this room. This is the bride's room at the chapel. Because of the blue stained glass, when the lights are out, everythings looks blue.

Danger! Danger!

The hazard warning this week is for lead. Apparently they found a problem when they were removing stone work. Falling rocks, broken glass and now lead. It's an adventure.

Strawberry Hill Museum

The Victorian home was built in 1887 for John and Margaret Scroggs, who lived there for 32 years. In 1919, St. John the Baptist Parish acquired the structure so the nuns could provide a home for orphans from the 1918 influenza epidemic. The Strawberry Hill Ethnic Cultural Society purchased it in 1988 for conversion into a museum dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Slavic heritage prevalent in the Kansas City, Kansas area.

The Strawberry Hill area lost 218 homes when I-70 was constructed in the 1950s but still has an impressive view of downtown Kansas City.
