Better Than a Fish Bowl

Syd and Tas like to watch the fish swim on the iPad. It's an app called Cat Fishing. When they step on one, the fish disappears and the bubbles appear. Even pets have gone hi tech.

Things That Just Never Get Old

An ooze tube, which Hayden received as a birthday gift several years ago and was kind enough to leave with us. It's amazing how often someone picks it up, turns it over, and watches it ooze.

A package that I sent to my niece seems to have gone astray although it was marked as delivered. We decided the delivery guy might have used this technique to "hide" it. This was a package delivered to Stacy. Why does it even occur to someone to think the mat serves any purpose in disguising the package?

The administrative assistants decided to have a dip bar in my former office space (see below). They had many more dips before they were done and Hawaiian music playing.

This sign has been up for a couple of weeks. I thought someone probably put it up while a happy couple was on their honeymoon and it would come down but it appears rather permanent. To each his own.

Was this a good idea? As it turns out, it did stand but there was concern that water for the Race for the Cure shouldn't be stacked this high. It was pleasantly cool but we still handed out a lot of water to the 23,000 participants.

School Years Kicks Off

Hayden starts her new job with the beginning of school today in the Shawnee Mission District. She is the new librarian at Westwood View and Rising Star elementary schools.

Into the Wild Blue Yonder

My nephew Cal (seated) is a student at the U.S. Air Force Academy and is beginning his junior year at which point cadets have to commit to the Air Force or go elsewhere. This is the celebration dinner with his squadron.

Hand Painted Ichabod

We found this handpainted rock with the Washburn University mascot, the Ichabod, at my Mom's house. My parents both were graduates of Washburn. They are called Ichabods because Ichabod Washburn was a church deacon whose financial endowment led to the naming of the Kansas college after him. You can learn more here.

The pall bearers from Fort Riley stood for more than 30 minutes in 109 degree heat at my father-in-law's graveside prior to the three-volley salute. Amazing.

Celebrating a Life

Howard's Dad, Gordon Huggins, died unexpectedly last night. We celebrate a good man and an inspiring dad. He will be greatly missed.
