SpraySeeMo 2025

SpraySeeMo mural festival 2025 has concluded but left behind some seriously cool murals. I love this one (with artists) at 14th and Oak. 

And this cool cat at 28th and Cherry.

 

String Artists

My Christmas present from Hayden was a project at Creative Culture. We made these lovely string vases that we are to put dried flowers in. Hayden is tying off mine above.

 

International Graduation

Garden Sphere Hunt

We went on a hunt for the new spheres in Antioch Park. In partnership with Johnson County Developmental Supports, 10 garden spheres are on display at Antioch Park Rose Garden. We found 9 easily but the last one was tricky, off the beaten path. They decided the one below was their favorite.

 

Bounty of the Season

I always love the peonies this time of year. These beauties came from Hayden's yard.
 

Foggi Ice Cream Creations

We watched them make ice cream using liquid nitrogen at a an ice cream and coffee shop in Mission. All ice cream is made in front of the customers. It's a very slow process but interesting.

 

Rocking It

For the first time, Colin embraced a performance and fully participated in his spring show. He was rewarded with a sucker and embraced that as well.

 

Last Day of the 2024-25 School Era

Vala is moving to kindergarten and Lowell to 2nd grade.

 

Moving Up

Adam received his certificate of completion for kindergarten and was officially promoted to first grade.

They performed songs but since Adam was on the back row we didn't get a good view. He had a great time, though.

Colin was sure he could help clear the storm damage. He could not. Howard started the work and Colin was going to finish it.

 

They Know Hats

As part of the Children's Conversation, the minister passed out hats, talking about seasons and what you would wear. The Kerns styled them nicely. You can see Lowell has one and Vala is wearing a scarf.

The bell choir's spring performance included several of my relatives, including the director.

The Lunch Bunch

We siblings are trying to be more regular in our meet ups. Susan couldn't make it and then I forgot to post it. But here we are. Aging nicely.

Lowell and Vala decorated a pot for me for my birthday. They did different sides so see Vala's below.

 

Bruce Has Arrived

Bruce the goose came for Mother's Day and decided to stay. Hayden says he has different apparel for other holidays.
 

Before We Were Moms

A motley assortment of us in 1970 for an unknown occasion. Seems appropriate for Mother's Day. The front row grandmothers (and Aunt Grace) have large pocket books.
 

Splash Pad Season Kick Off

Colin and I enjoyed our first splash pad of the season. Great free entertainment.

Mother's Day Tea

We had a special Mother's Day tea at church yesterday afternoon. We were elegant with tea cups and saucers. Libby (below) brought her own tea set just in case.

 

Sound Bath and Acoustic Meditation

Stacy and I participated in a sound bath at Kauffman Center. A fascinating experience. After I took the photo, we all laid down on our mats with eye masks and listened to the acoustic sounds as a meditation.

 

Mother's Day Project

Colin selected plants for a Mother's Day pot for his mom. Then he planted it.

 

20 Years and Counting

Hayden received pin for 20 years of teaching in the Shawnee Mission District at a reception for those serving up to 45 years and those retiring.
 

Sharing a Cake

Gordon and I had birthdays two days apart so some years we shared a cake, if we were in Parsons. He would be 99 today.
 

For Times Such As These

Colonial Church provided a good representation at Good Faith Network's Nehemiah Action 2025. Even Adam attended. It's an annual assembly where the faith community in Johnson County gathers to take action on affordable housing, mental health, and care for elderly.
 

Ready to Eat

Here I am on my 4th birthday. I like that spoons are at the ready around the cake, as if we will all just starting eating it. Who needs plates? Happy birthday to me today with an extra Throwback.
 

New Art Under Way

The Lenexa Old Town Activity Center is being renovated, including a mural by Johnson County native Evan Brown, who goes by the name Doodle Dood. The 900-square-foot space will wrap around the southwest corner of the new building. He has done several building murals around Kansas City. Stay tuned for this finished mural.

Middle School Cinderella

Indian Hills presented Cinderella last night. Hayden was assistant director so Vala and Lowell came to watch and meet Cinderella, before her transformation.

 

Community Herb Garden

Under the signage, it says "He who wants a rose must respect the thorn," which is a Persian proverb. According to the info, the intent is for people to take a small amount of an herb but not enough to harm the plant. We'll see how it goes.
