Mission Indoor Trick or Treat

Colin and I went to the indoor playground and found ourselves part of a costume parade and trick or treat at Powell Community Center. Since Colin was wearing his Batman shirt, it qualified as a costume and he led the parade. He also garnered lots of treats.

Trunk or Treat in Eudora

Lowell as a beautiful pink princess and Vala as Skye from Paw Patrol were ready to go trick or treating. Below, Vala is demonstrating her wings.
They close off the main street of Eudora for Trunk or Treat.

A Bit of Halloween, A Bit of Politics

So much happening here. A skeleton riding a dragon holding a Harris sign.

The Colors Are Here

Each year I doubt that it will be a colorful fall but this year does not disappoint. The colors are actually more inspiring but this is what I could get from my car.

Happy Birthday to Steve

Steve is celebrating a birthday that I would guess to be in 1955. I'm at the end of the table and Susan on the right but I don't know the rest of the kids. Looks like a Halloween theme.

Headed to Market

This fun mural is painted on the shelter at Arthur and Betty Verhaeghe Park in Overland Park. The adjacent playground is farm-themed. The Verhaeghes were apparently long-time farmers in the county and donated the land. There is a community garden as well. Colin thought it looked like The Little Blue Truck. It does.

Hidden Treasure

Sometimes when you go to make the bed things are hidden. Bruno was crafty.

Lego Bionicles

You don't know what you don't know. Adam was telling me about Bionicles and I had no idea what he was talking about so he showed me. It seems that Lego sold them as constructable action figures in the late '90s and his dad has several. You can see the containers they come in below.

I Found a Cow

This Royals cow from the long ago Cow Parade is in the lobby of Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance, where Howard had his knee surgery. Fun to find them places.

No Consensus

Colin and his new friend were having a disagreement on what parts of the pantry should be on the felt board. They eventually both just walked off. No hard feelings.

Toys and Miniatures

Adam and I explored the Toy and Miniature Museum. He enjoyed the miniatures, using a magnifying glass to see the detail.
I think he liked the toys best. Below he is examining the He-Man collection. He was disappointed that there were no Legos.

Pumpkin Day

Selecting the pumpkins is always challenging.
Below the adults are waiting for the kids to emerge from the straw maze. And lastly we were rewarded with donuts.

From the Stars Down to Trains

Lowell and Vala enjoyed the Planetarium. Lowell's Halloween unicorn shirt glowed throughout the show. After, they climbed to the top of the Science City Luckey Climber, painted and constructed trains.

Story Time Adventure

Colin and I joined in on story time at the Kansas City Central Library downtown and then went topside for a giant game of chess and the view. He was too short to see over the walls so we just enjoyed the chess.
To get there we had to take the bus instead of the streetcar because those cars are out of service while the old line is connected to the new one. Colin had to inspect the work but he was just as happy riding a big blue bus.

Imaginative

This Harris sign is clever but as a communications person I always ask is its message clear. Hopefully this one is.

Exploring Agriculture

I joined Hayden and girls for the Kaw Valley Farm Tour, an event by
K-State Extension to introduce individuals of all ages to the many faces of agriculture in the Kaw Valley. We took this tractor wagon tour to visit cows up close.
We walked through a weed maze. It was supposed to be corn but nature intervened so they had to scramble to come up with another plan. It's hard to see but there was a path through the weeds.
And a cool train ride around the farm.

Not Exactly the Purpose

New device to keep Bruno from scratching where he shouldn't. He is choosing to use it for lounging instead of scratching.
