Boo! They're on the Loose

With October literally around the corner, ghosts are appearing. I still prefer them to the ever-present skeletons these days. Did you know the word Boo comes to us from Scotland, just as jack-o-lanterns did?

Photo Shoot

We had family photos taken at Hayden's house. Here the photographer is explaining to the kids what she wants them to do.

What Is Happening?

Lilacs are blooming! If you know lilacs, they bloom in May for my birthday. I was quite disappointed this spring when none bloomed. Now here is this one in almost October! As you can see below, it's just a few at the very top of the not-very-healthy-looking bush. It's a crazy world but I did get to smell their beautiful fragrance!

A New Way of Baking

Now that Lowell has been diagnosed with Celiac disease I am learning to bake gluten free. I have the supplies to make cookies. Wish me luck.

It's A Circle!

Colin and I learned about shapes at storytime and then he found an obvious one at the park.

Bony Wiper

Always fun to see the way folks find to decorate for a holiday. I'd like to see this in action.

Creepy Underwear

Colin loves the book "Creepy Pair of Underwear!" in which the underwear have a ghoulish, greenish glow. He tapped my Friendship Light to match the underwear. (If you're not familiar with the lights, they are a different color each time you tap so he had to get to green.)

They Look Like Jayhawks

This wall of birds was outside the art room at Rushton. I think they look like Jayhawks but supposedly they are not. Some could be seen as pacmans maybe.

Find a Reason to Dance Through It All

Found one of the auctioned off hearts, in front of the old Beller Dance Studio. The Beauty of Grace, according to artist Anita Easterwood, is designed to represent our resilience when times get hard and the beauty of extending ourselves grace when we don’t get it right the first time.

Rushton Open House

Adam gave us a tour of his brand new school, including his classroom. It was pirate day, hence his attire. We also got a glimpse of a future Rushton student.

Line Dance?

We're getting dressed for Cindy's wedding but not sure why we're lined up like this. Happy anniversary to Cindy next week.

Last Splash?

I thought we'd had our last water activity but with the temperature yesterday we opted for a splash pad, one of the few options still open.

Reppin' the Chiefs

Lowell, Libby and Vala wore their Chiefs colors to spur on their team. Cute dresses times three is a winning style.

Lancer Day Parade

The 2024 Lancer Day parade led off with the band. The theme of the parade was jobs hence their apparel. Not sure which group the float below represented. It was often hard to tell. Most were teams.
And Colonial provided hospitality since the parade practically goes through our front lawn.

Lancer Day 1999

As drum major, Hayden wore the cool hat for the Lancer Day parade on September 17. Below you can find her behind the banner by her hat.

Which Style Do You Prefer?

These folks planted two kinds of sunflowers in a pot - the traditional design and then what I call a fluffy one.

Gnome Sweet Gnome

For Hayden's birthday, we gave her this cute guy who has a different hat for every holiday. Who doesn't love that? In the past she has given me a goose and then a cat with similar attire but they have not survived. I think this guy will.

Down the Rabbit Hole

We stopped for donuts at Donutology to celebrate Hayden's birthday before visiting the now famous Rabbit hOle in North Kansas City. It's amazing. Lowell visited Frances from the books by Russell Hoban.
Then Vala counted the Caps for Sale (by Esphyr Slobodkina) and
they took a nap in the bed from Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.

Ready for Some Football

I have my new Chiefs flag thanks to the volunteers at Prairie Village Shops selling these as a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House. I'm ready for the season.

Happy Red Wednesday!

Colin is ready for the Chiefs season to start tomorrow night. We tried the mural below but it was so tall you couldn't see much of it and see us.

Izzy managed to get the outside cushions pushed just this way so she could watch the birds.
