Strength Test

Stacy and Hayden tested out the child Adirondack chairs Howard made. They held up nicely, except getting out of them as an adult.

Hanging Out at the Golf Course

Colin visited Pops at work at Minor Park. He wouldn't ride in a golf cart but he enjoyed walking around.

Time to Do Something

I joined Grandparents for Gun Safety last week after the parade violence. Attended my first meeting (which is conveniently at Colonial) yesterday to learn how we proceed. You don't have to be a grandparent. More than 100 folks showed up, many becoming members.

Lowell helped me change the garden flag now that the Chiefs' season is over.

Literary Love

I received my mug for completing the Mid-Continent Library winter reading challenge. It's lovely. I only had to read 5 books between January 15 and March 15 but I was an over achiever, in number and time.

The First Search Engine

I stumbled upon these old card catalog cabinets at the library. Took me back. They are using them now for obituaries from 1977 to January 2012 in the Kansas City Star and Johnson County papers. Below you can see Dad's card (needed spell check). Not sure why they don't know his age.  Not sure why these are the years they have. Some earlier ones are included too.

Kansas City Strong

In the wake of the shootings after the Super Bowl rally, Union Station switched the Chiefs banners for this. They also provided a special area for folks to leave inspiration for those injured or killed.

Celebrating Holly

It's not a birthday photo, but shows her personality well. Frances, too. Happy birthday to Holly! 1996

Expressions

Watching the kids at the Children's Conversation, I had to wonder what Adam was saying. Love Lowell's expression.

Monet and His Modern Legacy

Claude Monet's Japanese Bridge changed as he painted in his later years, becoming more abstract, which many thought was due to his failing eyesight. Below is his earlier painting of the same scene. An exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins says scholars now believe he was evolving and his later technique provided influence on young artists.
And below is a painting by Paul Jenkins in the 1960s that Jenkins said was inspired by Monet's later work. "Abstract Expressionism" is the term for the works that look nothing like Monet's work to me. I think I will never understand art.

He's Back

Our cardinal finally returned. He brought a little red-headed friend that appears to be a house finch.

Coming Right at You

My expert Frisbee aim had this sailing into the car. I can't recall if it was Cindy or Scott taking the picture. 1971

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope you're having a happy Valentine's Day. Surprisingly, Mission Hills allowed this exhibit of love - with an unexpected polar bear. Below, you can see that it is even illuminated. (night photo by Cindy)

Back to Back!

As is clearly stated on the Union Station facade, Chiefs are Super Bowl champions again. You can see below they already are setting up the stage for the parade on Wednesday.

Cookie Bakers

Lots of helpers to make our Valentine and Chiefs sugar cookies. Vala and Colin hard at work decorating.
Since it was Joey's birthday we took a break to wish him a happy birthday.

Say Chiefs!

Adam picked a football cookie for himself and a heart-shaped one for Pops. I got the yellow helmet. Delicious way to support the Chiefs!

Robots and Touchdowns

Adam created the robot you see. What you can't tell is that it drives across the table by itself. Pretty cool. Then he ran for a touchdown on the temporary football field at Science City.

Four Generations

We gathered for lunch after Hayden's baptism a mere 42 years ago. You have to love Hayden's hat but I worked hard on it so she was going to wear it.

Colin Is 2!

We celebrated Colin's 2nd birthday with a Wheels on the Bus theme. His snacks and cake reflected that. And his Dad made him a big cardboard bus. He even liked playing pin the stuff on the bus.

Chiefs Photo Ops

Enjoying the chiefs photo ops at Union Station. Then we had some touchdown food at Harvey's. Great evening.
And the trophy from the last time we beat the 49ers. We should do that again.

It's not throwing back far but since his birthday is today, here he is meeting his brother. He's 2 today!
