Knight Walk

When I first heard about it, I thought it would be a walk by Indian Hills students at night. But it turned out to be during the school day and involved a walk on the school perimeter, games and dunking of teachers. It's the schools only fundraiser. Students get pledges for their walking. Hayden said it went well, if a bit hot.

Planting Pumpkins

Not what you usually think of when someone says they are going to plant a pumpkin but it's a cool idea. Seems like it will be short lived but I didn't investigate that closely.
 

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

You can't really read the signage but Hayden is holding Happy, I'm holding Birthday, and Stacy has Grandma. The girls added some of the color. Mom appears to be holding her cake. Seems appropriate since she would have been 100 on Tuesday.
 

Catching a Ride

I had some things to deliver to the sacristy so Colin opted to have a ride in the wagon (we collect food in it on Sundays).
 

Better Late Than Never

My morning glory plant has done nothing this summer but suddenly it's in bloom and showing all of its colors at once. Either it didn't like the summer heat or decided it was a fall flower.
 

Nature Hike

I read about this idea to take a nature scavenger hunt and use a piece of tape for collecting what you found. That didn't work as well as described but these two had fun sticking things to the tape and then taking them off so I guess it was a success.
 

Fall Festival Fun

Adam and Colin enjoyed the corn pit, petting zoo and planting. The straw maze was a hit with Adam but he was never still long enough in it to photograph. The typhoon that occurred while we were there slowed us down but did not deter us.

 

Orthopedic Humor

The orthopedic staff got creative in showing their Red Friday spirit.
 

Butterfly Experience

Adam is keeping his distance from the caterpillars that will become butterflies. He liked having the butterfly in his hand before it was set free. It was tagged so they can trace its path to Mexico.

Circus Fun

A visit to the circus in 1986 with both Gussie and Grandma Vala. The girls got to march in the parade at the beginning (see Hayden below in purple but you can't see Stacy).

 

It Must Be Fall

Colin examined the pumpkins at Family Tree and then explored the straw maze.

Eagle's Nest

You can see the net at the top of the tree. We saw the eagle but he/she took off as I was framing the photo. They have their own island for thriving on Gull Lake. Below you can see a resident's version.

Visitors to this resort on Gull Lake can just fly in and park on the beach.

No but they’ve been grazing here in Brainerd MN for decades. 

All But the Bride

The Morgan cousins at Morgan's wedding. Tomorrow is her and John's anniversary but I don't seem to have any photos of the wedding. So here are the cousins who attended. 2012

 

First Story Time

Colin attended his first library story time. He was reluctant at first but went to the front once they were reading about animals.
 

A Bit of Axe Throwing

The younger kids experienced axe throwing at the church picnic. Thankfully it was mostly harmless although we had some close calls because the axes may have been plastic but it was hard plastic. Colin walked around throwing axes to the pavement but George, Libby and Adam had some stick in the target.

The family gathering gave us the opportunity to see the generations. Above, the elders. Below, the next generation.

Anniversaries Celebration

We celebrated the 40th anniversaries of Cindy and George and Scott and Kathleen with cake and a party. Cindy and George will be 40 years on September 24 and Scott and Kathleen on October 8.
 

Cookies with Grandparents

Vala invited us to cookies with grandparents. This time I actually got a cookie, although Vala ate most of it. She also had made a handprint poem for us.

Polly Want a Cracker?

We encountered this parrot with handlers in Loose Park. They let Adam give him an animal cracker. Adam and I stopped for our own treat at Donutology in honor of the Chiefs kickoff.

Our selfie attempt was an epic fail but below you can see the display we were trying to capture. And we found a photo of the Super Bowl parade rally in Cindy's office building. We had to wear our Chiefs shirts a day ahead of Red Wednesday so I'd have a photo for the blog. 😁

 

Early Celebration

We celebrated Hayden's birthday early to accommodate schedules. Several super heroes and a reindeer came to help celebrate.

 

1790s Hymn Sing

Dr. Joseph Kern led worship yesterday with a hymn sing in the manner of a 1790s congregational church. He is pointing to the music they would have used instead of hymnals and then led us in singing (without instruments). He stressed loud was more important than good, something I can handle.

I'm Waiting

This lovey seems to have been dropped on a walk. Someone nicely set it on the manhole cover next to the sidewalk so it wouldn't get run over. Hope it's reunited with its owner soon.  Update: It has been claimed.
 

Perhaps the Wait Was too Long

Some gent decided to put his fist through the wall at the restaurant so they cleverly made art out of it (see below).
