Junior Lawn Crew

I followed this guy down the sidewalk as he was delivering the leaf blower to his dad. He said he was the assistant and couldn't actually use the equipment.

Nuclear Circus – Humans Gone Wild

That's the description of the Garden Brothers Circus in the parking lot of Oak Park Mall this weekend. Apparently no animals - just humans - doing tricks and performing.

All Aboard!

The Strang Line Electric Car has arrived at Kidscape in the Johnson County Museum. A bit of trivia – the trolley is modeled after the first car to run on the line, the Ogerita, named after William Strang’s niece. Strang founded Overland Park.

A Spring Tradition

We spent many a spring attending the Shawnee Mission Research & Development Forum to see what our daughters had on display. Howard and Hayden are perusing the entries in 1990.

Safe at the Pitcher's Mound

Colin arrived safely at the temporary mound and wanted to high five me. We were fairly dirty when we finished.

Now There's Something

With the NFL Draft just 2 days away, there's plenty to see at Union Station now (except the station itself which is hidden behind all the scaffolding).  I was able to get inside to see the lobby that has been transformed to the Green Room for the draftees. I had to peek where I wasn't supposed to but ... you can see the back side doesn't show you anything.

Signage is everywhere now where there was none last time I visited.

Chillin by the Fire

Izzy and Bruno were warming by the pretend fire on a cold morning. Izzy also decided to chew on the s'mores stick.

Arenas of Histrionics and Humor

The Kansas City Parade of Hearts has returned and this is the first one I've seen. It's just west of the Plaza and recognizes the importance of the arts to Kansas City. Creator Fran Kapono-Kuzila included Starlight Theater, Kauffman Center, the Folly and the Mainstreet as representative of performance art in Kansas City. The back lists local production companies, venues and organization here. She sees the heart as a visible way of thanking everyone involved in theatrical arts in Kansas City.

Before the Freeze

With the threat of a hard freeze tonight, I wanted to show my favorite lilacs. I don't recall them freezing in the past but the weather is so changeable now, who knows.

Adam was serious about his rock painting.

Chillin' on the Links

You can't tell it but we are sitting on the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, which is where the RBC Heritage tournament (that was played last week) takes place. The big blue thing behind us is the back of the stands for the tournament. We were there the week before it in 2016. Below you can see the trophy and lovely jacket the winner gets. We saw them on display in the clubhouse.

Tiny Woodsman

Colin looks like he's adventuring in the woods but we're in a city park.

Losing the Canopy

You can see four stumps just on this street. Overland Park has decided to aggressively remove ash trees to get ahead of the ash borers. Currently they are in the process of cutting down 250 trees from 83rd to 87th streets and Nall to Lamar (so just north of us). The streets are beginning to look naked. I understand the problem but it is sad to watch. While they are replanting, it will take a long, long time to have the beautiful trees we have known.

This Lenten Rose is blooming beautifully just in time for Eastertide.

Cecilia Is 2

We celebrated Cecilia's 2nd birthday. She liked the cake but not blowing out the candles. Meanwhile, her cousins were in the mosh pit.

Not Much to See Yet

With all the street closures and fencing I was expecting to see something momentous in preparation for the NFL Draft. But so far a basic roof frame on Union Station and a stage on the World War I Museum grounds is it. But they have made it quite hard to get to Liberty Memorial to take a photo.

I spied Adam while he thought he was hiding behind the tree.

Life on the Vertical

National Geographic Live featured Mark Synnott speaking on his adventures climbing in places like Greenland, Patagonia, Guyana, Venezuela, Pakistan, Tibet and Alaska. After just seeking adventure, he has changed to using his climbing skills to aid scientists in their work in hard to reach places.

No school so Lowell was at my house putting the first coat on her rock art.

Glorious Easter

Everyone was dressed beautifully for church, even Colin sporting his bow tie. After church, we enjoyed lunch, cookie making and the beautiful weather.

Egg Extravaganza

Cousins gathered to dye eggs and hunt for eggs. Below you have the gamut of expressions from Libby to Cecilia to Vala to Lowell to George. I love it!

Ups and Downs of Gravity

Adam is the gravity holding the moon (the egg) to the earth. He was participating in a Little Explorers Club at Prairiefire Museum. Below he is creating a rocket.

Happy Little Guy

His shirt clearly states he is. A little messy from playing outdoors.

Tuesday, April 4, 2023

Lowell and Vala enjoyed the Easter celebration at Corinth. Lowell chose bunny face paint and Vala a tiger. The petting zoo was a big hit.

Parade of Palms

The parade participants are patiently waiting with palms. You can see Lowell has changed a lot in the four years since her first parade.
