A Ray of Sunshine

This little guy brightened my day for a walk.

All Quiet

Minor Park Golf Course, which would normally be a beehive of activity this time of year, is empty like all public spaces now.

Sharing Books

Tas decided she needed to read too. Not sure this will work.

Stay Home KC

Our friends at Alpha Lit who created the cool signs for the Super Bowl run would like you to stay home for the 30 days.

Trying to Lift the Mood

These folks are pulling out all the stops to cheer us up. They always have a nice holiday display and now we have them all.

The Page and the Reporter

Dad and I on the steps of the Capitol in Topeka, February 1965. I was going to be a page in the House of Representatives and he was, of course, covering the legislature for the Star.

Rin Tin Tin Descendant

I met this little descendant of Rin Tin Tin. I loved the 1950s TV show about the calvary in the old west that featured his patriarch. His owner said the pup is not letting him get much sleep so he was out early at the grocery store. I liked the price on his basket. Apparently the AKA can trace him back to the original Rin Tin Tin, who was rescued in 1918 on a World War I battlefield.

The New Normal

This is how the family gathers now. Not ideal but beats not seeing each other at all.

KU Wins!

I'm pretending that we won the 2020 national championship. It was nice of CBS to replay the 2008 championship game so we could relive the glory. A bit less stressful when you know the outcome.

Mixed Message

So you go to the seniors only hour at the grocery store and find huge lines. Don't think the personal distance intended was working.

Welcome Spring

By the time you read this, these beautiful blooms may have been zapped by the anticipated freeze but we are enjoying them now. With spring comes hope! Bring it on.

Sheltering in Place

Adam thought perhaps he would watch some TV since we were homebound. Neither of his remotes actually works the TV so he didn't get far but he wanted to sit where Lowell sits to watch "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood."

Crape Myrtle Allee

These are crepe myrtle trees, which means later in the spring this will be a stunning display of blooms but it's rather cool right now. The walkway leads to Toad Corners, where four huge toads are spraying water into the center. I just learned that the Arboretum has closed because of the virus. Happy I was there when I was.

Lock Dancing

Stacy and Hayden are dancing at the Mississippi River lock near Minneapolis circa 1992. We were there for the Final Four (back when we had those). I don't recall what brought on the exuberance but I like it.

Coronavirus Panic

After we returned home I went to the store to pick up some milk and a few things but panic has set in and as you can see, only about 5 boxes of pasta remain.

500,000 Tulips

Yes, more from the Arboretum because it was so breathtaking, even in the mist. The event, which goes from the end of February to the middle of April, has more than 100 varieties of spring bulbs and over 500,000 tulips.

In the midst of all the coronavirus craziness, take time for the quiet.

Waiting for Sun

Didn't find the sun but we didn't let it stop our fun.

Beauty of the South

Azaleas were in full majesty when we visited Stacy in Memphis in 2004.

Strategic Placement

Lowell was quite specific about where her chess pieces needed to be at Wonderscope.

Spring Flowers

The spring rains are bringing out my spring flowers.

Back in the Pool

Lowell is taking swimming lessons to follow up on what she learned a year ago.

Party Time!

Adam celebrated his 1st birthday with friends and family.

Fixed It!

Our neighbor tried using a bungee cord to fix her gate. I don't think it's working. It's holding the top bar but now the panels are dropping off. I believe a new one will be required.

Happy Birthday, Adam!

His actual birthday is tomorrow but because of leap year, he is 365 days old today.

1972 Spring Break

Susan with Denny Boody in Washington DC on spring break 1972. Susan was interviewing for jobs for after graduation and Denny and I were along as moral support. One of our tourist days.

Fearless

Lowell knows no fear when climbing at Antioch Park. She keeps me hopping.

Garden Dilema

Enjoyed the juxtaposition of the bright colors with the neutral. Do you make the pot the focus or the flowers?

Pinewood Derby Trophy

The Prairie Elementary Cub Scout troop holds its Pinewood Derby in the Colonial Social Hall. I love the sophisticated trophy. You can see below how it is "engraved," with the winner writing his name.

Signs of Hope

The pansies are here so I know days are numbered for winter dreariness.
