Changing the Earth's Surface

This part of Dinosaurs Revealed was so cool I had to include it. It's a sandbox but with the lights overhead you can drag your hands through the sand and change the topography of the landscape and make lava flow. It was amazing.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

In this case, it doesn't lead much of anywhere. This is part of the Wizard of Oz exhibit at Crown Center, which I would more aptly describe as a playground for young children.

Dinosaurs Roamed

The Kerns and I visited Dinosaurs Revealed on the last day at Union Station. With the help of technological magic, a dinosaur looked at Adam in his stroller below. Adam chose to sleep through the whole experience.

Primroses and Ranunculus

The Orangery at Kauffman Memorial Garden is full of primroses and ranunculus. A breath of spring.

We were at the then Alameda Hotel decorating for an appearance by presidential candidate Bob Dole in 1988. I thought it was a great way for the girls to learn about politics. As I recall it involved a multitude of balloons.

Everything Old Is New Again

The Aztec Theater in downtown Shawnee once again has a lit marquee although the theater is still a few months away from reopening to show classic movies. "A Hard Day's Night" might be the last movie I saw there. The theater opened in 1927 as the Mission Theater and was purchased by Dickinson Theaters in the 1940s and operated as the Aztec Theater until it closed in 1975. Below you can see how it looked in 1955.

This marquee was destroyed when they closed the theater. The current marquee on display came from a theater in Abilene, Kansas.

Immersed in Art

Café Sebastienne at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art surrounds you in modern art while you dine. Some might consider it over stimulation but gives plenty of opportunity to check out the art.
