Alone at the Top

Surprisingly, considering the ups and downs of this season, KU clinched its 14th consecutive Big 12 title last night against Texas. It was also senior night so a home farewell to Devonte Graham, Svi Mykhailuk and Clay Young. The team is hoisting the trophy. Below, the first 13 trophies with the newest one on its own pedestal.

Let's Not Make This Hard

Cover the previous year's sticker up with the new sticker. This isn't hard. Do you think it's colorful to use this approach, do you want to show you've lived here for 6 years, or can you just not follow instructions? I would really like to stop someone who sports this look and ask their philosophy on the task.

We served cherry pie for the first Surprise Sunday at Colonial. The pie, in celebration of Washington's birthday, was accompanied by trivia about his crossing the Delaware.

A Key Solution

When couples attach their love lock to the old Red Bridge, they have traditionally tossed the key into the Blue River below to lock their love. But that turns out to be bad for the environment. So now they have a box for the keys. In the future an artist will melt the collected keys and shape the molten metal into a monarch butterfly sculpture. The organization Monarchs on the Move has taken on the project in conjunction with the Kansas City parks department. Apparently the river's ecosystem is fragile and important to the healthy migration of monarch butterflies in their annual treks to and from Mexico.

Dreams of the Kings

This 2,000-year-old, life-sized burial suit is from a Han Dynasty tomb in ancient China. The jade pieces are stitched together with gold wire. The theory was that the body would not decay if encased in jade. It's part of a display at the Nelson-Atkins Museum that also includes several art objects from the tombs.

In The Land of Nod

A strange and magical land, ala Robert Louis Stevenson in The Land of Nod:
... But every night I go abroad
Afar into the land of Nod.
All by myself I have to go,
With none to tell me what to do —
All alone beside the streams
And up the mountain-sides of dreams.
The strangest things are there for me ...

The festival provided primed walls for artists to create solar eclipse art. This one was painted by Jonathan Munden using his daughter as the model.

Child Abuse

Susan wearing what looks like a hot pad. I don't think this is how parents should treat their children. I'm sure I wouldn't do such a thing (wink, wink).
