Artistic Pumpkin Carving

Just a few of the pumpkins carved by students at the Kansas City Art Institute. They were on display at the Crestwood Shops (55th and Brookside) as part of Carved. Except for the purple, the colors are created by the way they are carved.

Is This a Bargain?

I don't believe I would pay $19.94 (or anything) for dead mums. Perhaps they forgot to water.

A Sign of the Season

Tas has moved to the sun in the afternoon seeking warmth so I guess it's truly fall.

Beware the Spider

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art sports this guy on its front lawn. I think it's there year-round but it seems appropriate this time of year.

Meyer Is Back!

The Meyer Circle Sea Horse fountain is finally flowing again, after a 2-year hiatus. A private fundraising effort brought the 92-year-old fountain back to life after its electrical system, motor and underground pump room were ruined by flooding. Its return will be celebrated Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. with refreshments and musical entertainment.

Treacherous Trails

The trail around Bear Lake had some very treacherous parts. This lady was trying to get down via tree hugging. Because the temperature was moderate, folks weren't prepared for the ice.

You Can Wait

The wild life in Colorado is not interested in your rights. The truck started to go around the other deer, so this guy stepped out to stop him. They were in no hurry and wasn't really any reason for us to be.

Blessing Our Furry Friends

Animal Blessing Sunday is always fun. We had dogs and guinea pigs. All cats were represented only on the video screens (apparently not receptive to being present).

Jayhawk Reunion

Enjoyed reconnecting with friends from my KU days. Too bad the football game wasn't as enjoyable.

Garden Walk

Where does it lead? Ah, the mystery.

"I Ask You to Help Us"

So said Alex Martinez, one of the Dreamers of the DACA program. He spoke at a forum on immigration reform hosted at Colonial Church last night. Alex talked about paying into Social Security and paying taxes but having no standing. It was an interesting evening.

New Worship Space

Colonial Church dedicated the new chapel in space that served as the original sanctuary. Temple Sinai, a Jewish congregation, currently also uses the space for weekly worship. A member of their congregation is blowing the shofar, a hollowed out ram's horn used in special services.
