Spicing Up Life

Planter's Seed and Spice Company looks like it's unchanged from its beginnings in the 1920s. With creaky wooden floors and delightful aroma, it's an experience not to miss.

I love this new color I apparently planted last fall.

The Colors of the Wind

This garden piece will make any breeze a colorful delight.

Exotic Nature

I was given this orchid for my birthday. As I don't expect I will keep it going for long, I wanted a photo of it in full bloom.

Power Racing

These are contestants in the Power Racing Series at the Maker Faire at Union Station. It's a competitive series that starts with a kids ride-on vehicle that is enhanced and ridden by "big" kids. They are taking a parade lap before competing individually through a tire obstacle course. The Kansas City stop is one of 9 on the 2017 circuit. Was pretty entertaining.

Pick Your Color

These faux wood chairs at Park Place are colorful. Not as comfortable or as cool in heat at Howard's but they're pretty setting around on the AstroTurf.

Dewey on the Job

I was pleased to get to see Dewey (and Hayden) meet and greet residents of a nursing home as part of Dewey's work for Pets for Life. She did a great job.

Vala's Birthday

Cindy helped Grandpa celebrate Grandma's birthday in 1957. I'm guessing the rest of us are on the other side of the table. I don't remember that coffee pot.

Taps at the Tower

A retired admiral placed a memorial wreath in preparation for the playing of taps at the Liberty Memorial. Taps are played nightly at sunset, rain or shine, through June 24.

Ultimate Rainbow

The colors were so bright it looks fake but it was real (about 7:00 p.m.)

Celebrating Father's Day

Fun dinner with Stacy and Hayden and the boys.

Walk the Vote

Mainstream Coalition held a Walk the Vote rally and walk through downtown Overland Park yesterday morning. Cindy and I were participating in the walk following the kick off rally. Good turn out.

How Do You Decide ...

... what random piece of Americana to place in your yard? In this case front and center with a special concrete pad.

Summer Show-Off

My hibiscus is loving this hot, humid weather. Reminds me of the flowers in Hawaii.

Exploring the Stars

Hayden and I visited the Arvin Gottleib Planetarium at Union Station. Unfortunately you can't take any photos inside but you can lay on bean bags and gaze at the night sky as they explain the constellations. Cool thing is the program changes throughout the year as the stars we see change.

Responsible Living

Took stuff to the Johnson County Hazardous Waste recycling center. Just some of the stuff you see being dropped off. They are able to reuse almost 50% of what is donated!

Heart Tugs

Colonial hosted an adoption event by Pawsitive Tails yesterday after church. At least one of the puppies was adopted. They were all adorable.

Dragon Races

The dragon boat races on Brush Creek were colorful. In this race, boat 3 won easily when boat 2 capsized. I don't believe experience was a requirement to be on a team.

Shimmering Water

The fountain at Park Place shimmering in the sun as it flips water away.

That's How We Do KC

This display keeps showing up around town. I've seen it at Kauffman Stadium and Union Station. People seem to love having their photo taken with it.

Happy Birthday to Dad

We all look a bit hot but of course Dad's in a shirt and tie. I can see a spare cake so I'm guessing we were next going to wish Grandpa a happy birthday since they were just a day apart. You'd think they could have used the same cake.

Fields of Battle 14-18

A very cool outdoor art exhibit at the Liberty Memorial of photos depicting the site of World War I battles as they are today - completely recovered from war devastation. Photographer is Michael St. Maur Sheil of Great Britain.

... at the Royals game. Not such a good result.

Stacy's address pots make a nice tribute to her K-State roots.

Everything Is a Canvas

Love this on a garage door in the Crossroads.

Black Sand

Lava, lava everywhere on the Big Island. Here at Punaluʻu Beach the lava flowing to the ocean eventually became black sand beaches.

Illuminated on the Waves

The sun behind these wind surfers at Ho'okipa Beach near Paia, Maui lit up their sails. The surf was rough but they seemed to handle it magnificently.

Who's Having Fun?

Apparently only me. We are at the Hemisphere in San Antonio. I'm liking Susie's socks.
