Dustbowl

Our neighbor decided to use a riding lawn mower and stirred up quite a dust storm. I didn't think our yard was that dry so don't know how hers could be.

Camping Portrait

Thanks to Cindy who found this lovely photo of herself, Scott and me on a camping trip in 1966. We're looking surprisingly normal for a camping trip. Must have been the first day.

A Flock for Peace

I found this flock of origami peace cranes in one of the rooms that AA uses. They were only there for a short time and then disappeared. I love that the paper cranes continue to be made.

Get It?

If you make it look like a plastic bottle, maybe people will recycle rather than just dump trash in it?

Political Opinion

This seems to be the more common type of political sign I'm seeing this election season.

Into the Clouds

Seemed appropriate as we drove out of the Adirondacks. Soon we were engulfed.

Riding the Rails

We used these pedal cars to ride out on the railroad tracks into the countryside. Very cool. Good to be in good shape for this excursion. Sorry to hear New York State is planning to remove the rails to make a hiking-biking trail.

The Seasons Are Changing

Here in New York you can see fall has arrived.

Down in the Depths

I'm about halfway down into the Ausable Chasm. Beautiful but some crazy bridges for the more adventurous (crazy) people that involve ropes.

Cousins of Old

So only Ann is looking at the camera. Maybe Leon but with the fine reflection on his glasses, who could tell. Chris, Steve and Susan look right, Charles and Keith look at each other and Jean looks down. Was this the best they got? Says it was July 4, 1950.

Quiet Contemplation

The Adirondack chairs await on the glassy shores at Lake Placid.

A Tiny House

This boat house on Loon Lake with its Adirondack chairs was waiting for action.

Olympic Jumping

The Slopes at the Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jumping Complex are quite intimidating. Can't imagine taking the jump off of any of those.

The View from Brooklyn

We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge from the Brooklyn side so looking at Manhattan.

Awaiting the Onslaught

The Genius Bar at the Apple Store was ready for customers yesterday when the iPhone 7 went on sale. The line was out the door. I was happy I was only there to get an accessory and could get in a different line.

Wasn't Expecting This

I came home to meet the cable company because a utility crew cut the cable and I discovered all of this. They were using that machine in the middle with the drill to put in a utility pole for Google Fiber. They were unfortunately driving through my yard to do so. Damage was minimal, surprisingly.

Marching for the Wildcats

Mom traveled to Topeka with me to see Stacy and the K-State band march at the playoff game between Washburn Rural and Junction City in 1998. I forget why K-State performed at a high school game but I think it had to do with someone the director knew. It was great because we could see the band members much better than in Manhattan but we still couldn't recognize Stacy because they all look alike in uniform marching on the field.

Holy Credit

It amused me that this was the Holy Rosary Credit Union. Reminds me of money changers in the temple. It sits next to Holy Rosary Catholic Church near the River Market.

Newly Shining

The KCPT tower glistened in the sunshine. It's stood since 1955. Below you can see it under construction.

Chalk and Walk

A team in the Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival at Crown Center. They said their picture is a Thomas Hart Benton painting that hung in the Macy's store on Petticoat Lane. They are not artists by trade but do this once a year. They are actually engineers.

As part of the Pianos on Parade, a tribute to the Royals in Merriam Marketplace. It's there for anyone to play but someone broke the bench.

Rainbow Bright

This house has a bumper crop of zinnias and is once again sharing with the community. A very happy idea. It brightens my day when I drive by on my way to work each day. And I took a flower one day while on a walk.

Shake, Rattle and Roll

Nothing to take a photo of so you get this screenshot as it seems it should be noted that I felt my first earthquake - at 7:02 a.m. yesterday. Howard talked to his sister, who lives in Bartlesville near the epicenter, and she said no damage there. But she said she is getting earthquake insurance on her new home in Oklahoma City.

Takes Me Back

I see these metal chairs a lot now. They always remind me of ones at the Harford's house, which of course weren't this colorful.
