This amazing bicycle sculpture sits above the Southwest Blvd. Family Health Clinic. It's by Rhett Johnson. Adds color to the neighborhood.

Out of Commission

The Meyer Circle Seahorse Fountain is down for repairs and will more than likely not be turned on this fountain season according to the City of Fountains Foundation. Very disappointing. Kind of like not having the Plaza lights come on.

Just Imagine

That's the name of this sculpture by Graham Lane outside the New Theatre entrance.

In Rudd We Trust

I'm loving these political looking signs for the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend that raises money for Children's Mercy Cancer Center June 17-18. Their tag line is United We Laugh. The signs are a nice twist in an election year such as we are facing.

The Bread Goddess

The bread goddess, Marilyn Uppman, taught us how to make Spanish bread and cinnamon rolls yesterday. I took two classes from her years ago and having been baking bread ever since. Not only is she educational, she's highly entertaining. Below are some loaves of Spanish bread.

Where Once There Was Shot Put

The field for the Downtown Lawrence Olympic Shot Put held in conjunction with the Kansas Relays remained as a street festival got underway. Some of the competitors (below) stayed for photos and a meet and greet. Apparently the sand is brought in and removed, all within 24 hours. Watch a time lapse of the preparation.

Not Just for Graphics Designers Anymore

Pantone colors, a staple of design work, have gone mainstream with children's books about color, journals, etc. So cool.

The Fragrance of Spring

A little ahead of schedule, but loving the lilacs everywhere.

Breaking Baklava

Our Muslim neighbors made and served us baklava yesterday at Colonial, a step in building relationships and friendships in a divided, fearful world.

Hamburger Heaven

HiBoy Burgers in Independence is a Kansas City favorite since 1957. No place to eat - everybody just eats in their car or sits on the curb. We enjoyed a taste of nostalgia. Old style burgers, misshapen and fried. Just down Blue Ridge Cut-Off from Kauffman Stadium.

The Waters Are Flowing

Yesterday was Kansas City Fountains Day, when all the fountains are turned back on. This is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fountain on Broadway.

Blog Extra - Contrasts

While we enjoyed a beautiful night at the Royals game, courtesy of Howard's boss, he was "enjoying" his son's lacrosse game in South Bend. We definitely got the better deal.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

This beautiful home in Savannah was used in the 1990's movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I think they just used the exterior. Many beautiful homes off these squares throughout the city.

Just for Tourists

The fake lighthouse at Harbour Town on Hilton Head was built in the '70s and doesn't warn any ships. We found the statue below, which had no explanation for its existence. I thought maybe hula hoops were from there but apparently not. But it does match the lighthouse.

A Random Moment

Not sure what is happening. It says Cindy is 5 1/2 months. I guess Susan and I are just hanging around. I seem uncertain about what Cindy is doing.

Are We Early?

Howard and Dave were checking out the 18th green at Harbour Town Golf Links. They were setting up the grandstands for the RBC Heritage PGA tournament, which is April 11-17. Kathy and I found front row seats.

Royal Portrait

Our friend, Bill Rose, was commissioned to paint this for Kauffman Stadium. The Leopold Gallery had an exhibition of it last night before it moves today to its permanent home behind glass at the VIP entrance. Bill and family, including daughter Allie below, were living across the street from us when he discovered he could paint.
