Not often you see a flag in this predicament.

Just in Time

My viburnum is blooming, despite the freeze, just in time for Easter. It's a rebirth in that we planted it to replace an overgrown one a couple of years ago and this is the first time it has bloomed.

This lady of flowers is using the mirror to paint a self portrait.

Easter Finery

Look at us all smiling and standing in place. That must have lasted about 15 seconds. 1959

Wading in the Water

This is the baptism pool at work, now emptied. Jesus waits for the next group. They used it on Palm Sunday to baptize the confirmation kids. So different from baptisms at Colonial.

A Tip of My Hat

Howard was delivering more chairs to Hi Hat Coffee at 50th & State Line Road in Westwood Hills. I got an excellent cup of coffee in the bargain - their specialty blend for 17 years. It's worth a stop (and the seats are quite comfortable!).

One Large Club

The Katy Golf Course in Parsons waits for spring. It will celebrate its 90th birthday this summer. Howard spent many hours there, playing unlimited golf for $45 a season. What a bargain!

St Patrick's of Parsons

This church for the parish of St. Patrick opened in 1900 in Parsons (you can see the water tower behind). It sits prominently at the end of one of the main streets.

Blossoms Abound

It may not feel like spring, but it sure looks like it. The magnolias have been outstanding.

Streetcar Art

You will notice that this sculpture atop the Union Station streetcar depot is part streetcar, part car, part plane. It is one of a couple of pieces of art along the streetcar route that are part of Kansas City's Art in the Loop project. Be sure to look up when you're at a streetcar stop.

Looking Up

When Susan and I went to the 1971 Final Four in the Houston Astrodome, we had these stupid seats where we had to look up at the court the whole time. It was raised about three feet. KU lost in the semifinal game to UCLA, the eventual champion, and then to Western Kentucky in the consolation round. Still it was fun.

Clouds hanging low as seen from the Liberty Memorial.

Singleton Yard

This is the facility in the River Market where the Kansas City streetcars will be stored, maintained and cleaned. Three of the four are in there now, with one to arrive soon before the May 6 start of the service. We took a walking tour of the entire route from Union Station to here yesterday. Very informative.

Welcome Big 12

Mostly great weather welcomed the Big 12 tournament but Saturday was a bit gray. Congratulations to the Jayhawks for winning the title.

Our new garage doors were installed yesterday. Huge improvement over the original doors, circa 1963.

At South Mountain Park you can see the city of Phoenix off in the distance. Impressive view.

Presenting the Trophy

Before the game at Surprise Stadium, the World Series trophy (on the black covered table) and plaques for the Golden Glove winners were presented by Sly James to the City of Surprise. Then you could see - but not touch - the trophy up close and personal and have your photo taken with it.

Tempe Diablo Stadium

Watched the Royals beat the Angels in Tempe Diablo Stadium, home of Angels' spring training. Alex Gordon is batting. A sea of red after the sea of blue at Surprise.

Going through the Drills

Great fun to watch the Royals practicing. Draws quite a crowd. The familiar names and lots of unknowns trying to make the team.

Time for Baseball

A Sure Sign of Spring

I'm surprised we haven't seen crocuses sooner as warm as it's been.

Salvy Splash

I heard the billboard was coming down Sunday so wanted to see it. Nobody around so I attempted to take a selfie as so many have. I may be the champion inept selfie artist, although I did at least get in the path of the cooler. It is a cool billboard and fun to see Salvy with his signature cooler of icy drink looming so large.

It's All Relative

With Gov. Joan Finney in 1993. Remember how we thought she was an unfortunate governor? We didn't know what we were in for.

Is It Broken?

One of the Dads who is a doctor visited the preschool. He wrapped the little girl's arm to demonstrate a cast. They were fascinated by the cast and by the stethoscope.

Unemployed

These snow shovels couldn't find work this winter, so they've lowered their expectations.
