Water Running Blue

In anticipation of tonight's game, the water is running blue.

Sharing the Stage

As the Royals roll into postseason play, the Chiefs will have to share the stage. With a Royals rally today and the Chiefs playing tonight at Arrowhead, it will be a traffic nightmare at mid-day.

Artist On-site

The Friends of Overland Park Art had a booth at the Overland Park Fall Festival where they were teaching kids to appreciate art. One of the ways was to demonstrate painting. So you could buy art or watch it being created.

Royals Are In!

Too bad it wasn't in Kansas City but still outstanding after a 29-year drought! Go Royals!

Crime Scene

This is taped off so I'm guessing the Halloween inflatables were slain because they showed up before October. Just a few more days and they would have been legal.

Landmark Moment

All three are laying together without animosity (although Tas looks a bit grumpy). First time since the Tas-instigated fracas in March. Hallelujah.

Accredited but No Spell Check

This sign has been in place for at least 10 years and when the mistake was pointed out, the person in charge said no one had noticed it yet so it didn't matter. Interesting perspective. I've always been bothered that preschool has a dash for a hyphen but hadn't noticed the name so I guess he's right.

Australian Blue

Always something new. I think these look more gray or white than blue but they are Australian Blue pumpkins, which can be ued for decorating or cooking.

A Plains Tipi

As advertisment for the Nelson's "The Plains Indians: Artists of Earth and Sky," they have erected a full size tipi in a park along Ward Parkway. You can go inside the tipi (I guess that's an authentic spelling of what we know as teepee) where you can read about how wonderful they were, warm in winter, cool in summer, able to withstand high winds and driving rain. What more could you want? They also painted them, hence the art.

Wm. J. Lemp Brewing Company

Built in 1895 for the Wm. J. Lemp Brewing Co. of St. Louis, this building at 215 E. 20th St. in Kansas City looks like a toy castle. It now houses the McKay & Byerley Law Office. Just one of the cool old buildings you can stumble upon in Kansas City.

You Know You Love It

The giant noodle at the Sports Complex. Stacy is demonstrating its size. On the base is the caution: "For your safety, please do not climb on the big noodle scuplture." Of course you wouldn't.

Flat Garden

This garden in the Portland Japanese Garden is called the Flat Garden. The idea is to balance the relationship between the flat planes (the ground) and the volume of stones, clipped shrubbery and trees to create a sense of depth of space. One of the few things we actually saw in Portland.

That's What Speed Do

...as Jarrod Dyson (right) is known to say. Terrance Gore (left) scored on a walkoff infield single by Lorenzo Cain last night after trailing until the 9th inning. Both he and  Dyson scored runs by racing from second to home to bring the Royals a 4-3 win over the White Sox. They are small but speedy. It was a cold night with a great ending. We were few but loud at the end of the game.

Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach

It was fascinating because when the tide was out, you could walk up to the rock and see starfish and other assorted sea creatures (which I didn't recognize).

Voodoo Doughnut

Famous in Portland, Voodoo Doughnut is open 24 hours and has lines around the corner. You can get maple-glazed with bacon, Oreo Cookie, Voodoo Doll and Portland Cream as we did and a whole lot more options. It was great fun but we were not able to eat all that we bought .

The Sun Sets on our Oregon Travels

It has been a glorious trip traveling all over Oregon. Alas we are heading home. (But never fear. There will be more photos.)

Rally for the Chiefs

The fans flocked to Union Station for the Chiefs' season kick off rally on Friday night. Didn't seem to help them on the field yesterday.

Happy Birthday, Hayden!

Always a colorful character, even down to her socks. Here she is at a piano recital in 1990.

Union Station Celebrates 100

Kansas City's Union Station kicked off it's 100th birthday with a celebration last night. Great fireworks and a cool laser show on the facade.

Flop House for Birds

At least these birds are flopping about. I guess they decided to add fake birds for adornment but they just flopped over. I don't see it as an attractive addition.

And So It Began

Every year when we tried to take a Christmas card photo, this is what happened. Above is 1982 and our first attempt. Hayden always makes it interesting, and Stacy endures.
