Organist or Artist?

The Minister of Music at work (who is also the organist) painted the windows at the New Dimestore in Brookside where his wife works. He said he enjoys the creative outlet.

Petal Snow

The rain knocked many of the petals off the crabapple trees. It's my kind of snow.

Jazz Worship

Rich Hill (on keyboard) and his band played for our worship service yesterday, Colonial's traditional post-Easter service. No sermon, just music.

Do You See Flowers

... or weeds? It's all in your outlook. Thankfully it's not my yard. They are pretty to look at in someone else's lawn.

Bleeding Beauty

My bleeding heart is in full bloom. It always reminds me of Vala's house, and the Freyermuths.

We Needed Some Rain

And we got it, a lot of it. Everything was flooding.

Disneyland Photo Bomb

Back before they called it a photo bomb, Howard bombed this photo. I was trying to get a picture of him with Mickey and kids (darn kids) kept getting in front of him so I said just stand there and they can wonder who got in their photo. The guy to the left saw it. (from our honeymoon, circa 1977)

Excavation Below

This raises several questions but especially, why would you be driving on the sidewalk anyway?

Goodie Delivery

One of the boxes of goodies from Clock Tower Bakery that we deliver to Kansas City Hospice House. Each day at closing, the bakery donates the food for Hospice House families to enjoy, assuming they find someone to transport it. (Often he gives us each a cookie for our effort.)

Happy Easter!

The work of the Easter bunny's helpers yesterday.

Designer Eggs

Stacy created these colorful eggs at a ceramic cafe. Nice work.

So Much Water

A pipe broke in the preschool at work overnight. This is after they pumped out six inches of water. Amazingly, preschool was able to go ahead on an upper floor. Only two parents decided not to drop their kids off. They're hoping to have it habitable for Easter Sunday childcare.

All Decked Out

Easter 1959. Hats, gloves, purses and, of course, bunnies. Don't you just love the flying saucer hats?

Leave An Impression

The impression left in this new sidewalk looks like the leaf is still there but it's not. (I checked.)

Spring Irony

At least we didn't have the slush yesterday.

Where Do We Teach Spelling?

Apparently, not at this school. They repeated the mistake on the other side of the sign so the person thought that's how you spell release.

Driftwood Art

Except it didn't drift here. Someone placed it. It makes interesting, although somewhat temporary, yard art.

You Can Only Ask Why?

This was a bizarre piece for sale in a West Bottoms antique store. Kind of reminded us of Toy Story.

One of the Joys of Spring

The tulip magnolia trees (which apparently are actually Saucer Magnolias) are such an asset when in full bloom. And this year they are doing particularly well, so far avoiding a browning frost.

Plaza Bunnies

In 1992, the cousins enjoyed a day on the Plaza.

How Lazy Are We?

So now we can't manage to buy a bag of clementines and put a few in our lunch? We have to buy them in snack packs? Seriously? Let's talk waste of money and packaging. Sorry, being judgmental.

Public at the Brickyard

I got to see my nephew Drew's restaurant in Wichita's Old Town yesterday. Cool decor, some from my Dad's collection.

Rag and Bone

Not Hayden and Stacy. It's the name of the shop in the West Bottoms they are in front of during First Friday Weekend. We had a fine time looking among the antiques, which looked to Cindy and I more like things we grew up with than antiques.

Bursts of Sunshine

One of the joys of spring.

Pelletier's Bunnies

These bunnies are from Pelletier's Department Store in Topeka (which closed in the 1970s). Helen isn't sure of their exact age but I think they are pretty cool.

The New Shrinky Dinks

For those of you familiar with the shrinky dink fad of the 80s, you can appreciate that they have moved to a new level - with carefully crafted patterns and bright colors.
If you're wondering about the quote behind, it reads: In the presence of the Risen Christ, we understand that there is no wreckage so total that God cannot redeem it, there is no cause so lost that God cannot breathe new life into it. ~ Barbara Brown Taylor

The Final Four

... in New Orleans in 1993. You have to love the '90s styling.

Gate Art

This yard used to have an old door as its gate. When that fell apart, they replaced it with this piece of art. Seems odd. One wonders how weather proof it is.

Squirrel Mess

The squirrels have been busy building nests and they leave debris everywhere, especially close around a tree trunk. This stretch of sidewalk is under an oak tree.
