Rock Chalk - It's Basketball Season!

Moving on to basketball, it was fun to see the new team. They have some maturing to do but it was a start, 97-57 over Pittsburg State.

Gigantic

Rather dwarfs the house, let alone the pumpkins and ghost.

Game On

Lauren at my office has posted her colors. She was not happy after game 1 but now the Cards have evened the series with the Red Sox and brought the game to St. Louis.

Happy Birthday Steve!

Even then he knew about cars. Looks like he drove it right off the lot.

Still Blooming

The roses in the Loose Park Rose Garden have not yet succumbed to the cold. Here's Mardi Gras in all its splendor.

Pumpkins on Parade

Hundreds of carved, lighted pumpkins in Cave Springs Park in Kansas City. It was impressive.

No One Mourns the Wicked

We saw a fantastic production of Wicked at the Music Hall. As you can see below, lights in the theater were not conducive to good photos, even before the show.

Light Up Your Life

You know you want this duck lamp. Only $3! But the rummage sale extravaganza at Colonial Church ends this morning so hurry.

How do you store your spices? These are at the new Fresh Market in Prairiefire.

Is It Spring or Fall?

The fall crocus always seem out of place but let's just call them the surprise lily of fall.

Floating Bonfires

WaterFire on Brush Creek last night. Mostly it's bonfires floating on the creek while music is performed on the bridge. Drew a lot of people.

Alien Landing Guide?

This is attached to a driveway. Is there some significance to this symbol of which I am not aware?

Lights and Lines

I like the symmetry of the lines at Bartle (foreground) with the Kauffman Center contours.

Musical Interlude

Back when I could (sort of) play the guitar. I believe Scott is the photographer.

X Marks the Spot

My friend Russ has been on a pilgrimage over the last year to find famous, and some not so famous, KU people to sign a book for his young nephews. The book is "Kansas Jayhawks ABCs and 1-2-3s." He has only the Q left, I believe. You can see Bob Dole's signature. Below Brian McClendon is signing the book for "X." McClendon is the creator of Google Earth and as Lawrence is the default center point of Google Earth, X marks the spot. (Sometimes Russ has needed to be creative in getting his letters signed.) Brian was the grand marshal for the KU homecoming parade and thus was available to sign the book.

Cool Logo

Literally. Ice sculpture at the conference. I believe it is also serving as a serving area.

What Are You?

At the Cerner Health Conference that opened today, these buttons are available for participants. Are you an Encourager, Trailblazer, Pioneer, Influencer?

Happy Birthday Helen!

Happy birthday to my Aunt Helen on her 93rd birthday. She has always been an inspiration to me. Here she is in 1945 while training to be a pilot.

Zombies on Parade

Following the homecoming parade, we had the Zombie Walk in Lawrence. Most were quite gory so I opted for this couple instead. What a bizarre collection of folk, and what a bizarre tradition. Apparently they have it the first Thursday of October each year.

Jayhawks Around the World

The 2013 KU Homecoming Parade last night featured the theme Jayhawks Around the World. My niece Holly was the co-chair.

Norwegian Fijord

Oh, the places I've been. A lovely but cool day as I recall. I'm in the middle next to Ingrid and Susan is in the bow. Ingrid's dad has the oars.

Wtiches Fingers

That got your attention, huh? These peculiar shaped grapes would look great on a Halloween buffet!

Towering Above

This guy likes to survey Prairie Village from atop the Colonial Church steeple. You can see below how high his perch is.
