Art on Wheels

This cargo truck was created by Asheer Akram, an American of Pakistani descent who created it to look like the ones he saw in Pakistan. Those are commercial vehicles personalized by their owners. This one is parked at the Nelson Atkins Museum as part of its Echoes Islamic Art exhibition.

Take a Moment

...as we head into a 100 degree day and remember February. I'll take the heat, at least for now.

Taxi Please

Cindy gives Scott a ride in 1958. Susan is busy in the garage. Cindy and Scott seem to think it is a lot colder than Susan does.

It's Coming for Us!

The sweet potato vine has decided it wants to go inside where it's cooler. It's certainly not headed toward sunlight.

Late Summer Color

I like the way these frame each other. It looks different from every angle. I admire it each day as I drive home from work.

I found another branch of The Little Library. This one in Prairie Village seems to be a dog lover.

New Librarian

I got to help Ms. Huggins as a volunteer in the Indian Hills Library yesterday. It was fun. A couple of the kids asked me if I was the new librarian. Lucky for them, I'm not.

Surprise!

I love it every summer when these pop up all over the place, seemingly overnight. Mom always called them Surprise Lilies although I believe they are actually a hardy amaryllis.

Nelson Island

Stacy and I hiked the Mill Creek Streamway Trail to Nelson Island in the Kansas River.  The island is named for Cleggie Nelson, who ran a speakeasy here during Prohibition, but then spent the rest of his life as a hermit. No signs of civilization now. When Stacy climbed on a log on the island, she found a dime, which she is holding.

SELLOUT

The cover band SELLOUT (apparently it's all caps) played at the KU football rally. I thought their apparel was oddly interesting.

Jayhawk Face

Seemed like odd placement for this design but she liked it. Part of the KU Football Kick-Off in Corinth last night.

Zinnia Explosion

This photo doesn't do justice to the mass of zinnias. It was gorgeous!

How Much Is too Much?

So we got another 4 inches on Monday morning. That makes 10 inches in the past week. Remembering the drought  and heat of last summer, I don't want to say enough but it does seem like we've had a large amount of rain this summer.

The pool at Steve and Paula's home looked very inviting on a hot afternoon.

Your Lawn Can Look Like This

Maybe they want these people to take advantage of their service. Whatever the reasoning, somebody should call.

Hanging Blossoms

I like my hanging planter because it's as pretty as the plants in it.

I Can See Clearly Now

Above you can see the stained glass window protective coverings have become very clouded. Below are the new ones. Makes quite a difference.

St. Cecilia

This window features St. Cecilia, the patroness of musicians, which I guess is why she is playing the organ. It's the showpiece window in the sanctuary at work.

Diaper Motorcycle

A centerpiece for Lisa's baby shower. It's a motorcycle made of diapers, bibs, receiving blanket and bottle. Very cute.

Tilt-Up Concrete

This memorial to the veterans of the Korean War is in Washington Park. It's a strange looking thing created by the Tilt-Up Concrete Association in 2011, partly to demonstrate the benefits of Tilt-Up Concrete.

Happy Birthday, Stacy!

A perfect occasion for a throwback Thursday. Stacy with her Grandma Morgan at one month.
