Snow Artistry

If it must snow, take the opportunity to create. Hayden built this penguin.

Couldn't this have happened while we were in Vegas?

The lanterns in the Palazzo pay tribute to the Chinese New Year.

Freemont Street Experience

The Freemont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas is amazing. The light shows on the roof feature concerts as well as just great laser shows. When the concert is on, they turn off all the neon on the casinos. Freemont is the original strip of Las Vegas.

Snowmageddon

It's great when you can make up words. As you can see by the mound on the table, the snowfall was heavy. More than we've had in a couple of years. And it just kept coming. Below you can see our four foot mound as we cleared the driveway. Then the snow covered it again, and again.

Problem Solved!

The restrooms above the main entrance were leaking down into the main rotunda and on down to the lower level. When dispatched, the maintenance supervisor came up with this solution. I think I would have summoned a plumber but that's just me.

Oh, the Irony

The membership created this "trophy" for 10 years of service, "building on the future." It strikes me as funny because it's a piece of the building that fell off.

Cottage in the Wood

Another fairy kingdom.

Welcome to the Westin

The front desk and lobby area of the Westin Crown Center, now owned by Sheraton, is getting a facelift.

It's Coming

Starting to see buds so I know the first blooms are coming.

That Should Do It

These are the steel beams installed to hold up the stone tower at work (note in the inset where they are putting them). Original construction involved wooden beams, which had turned to dust. Good thing nothing shook the tower or it might have come tumbling down.

Drive-Thru Religion

Our minister decided to try something new for Ash Wednesday. If you pull up in the circle drive, he will paint the sign of the cross on your forehead with ashes so you don't have to take time for a service. Seems like it might lose some of the meaning but maybe it's better than nothing. photo courtesy of Prairie Village Post

Lantern Festival

Falling on the night of the first full moon of the lunisolar New Year, the Lantern festival brings an end to the Chinese New Year season. These hang over the Sister Cities bridge on the Plaza.

Lost in Suburbia

This swan is in the creek by the Kansas City Country Club in Fairway. As it is unusual to have a swan there, we wonder where it came from. Cindy thinks it might have been used at a wedding or something.

Anticipation or Desolation

I choose anticipation. The Metro Garden Show is this weekend so it must be time to start planning for spring.

Canine Drug Enforcement

Nela is a drug enforcement dog with the Olathe Police Department. She works in the Olathe schools and is occasionally called on for other searches. It was interesting to learn how the dogs are trained. She cost $8,000 and was from the Czech Republic so her commands are in Czech.

A ghostly presence

I suppose these are left from an exhibit at Union Station but nothing explains these "people." You can see them through a gate on one of the corridors. All in white, they looked very ethereal.

Maybe Some Weather Stripping?

If you recall, my office is being corn blasted. We are discovering as they move around to our offices that this is most assuredly not an air tight building. When you open your door, there is a yellow cloud in the air. Good thing it's a vegetable and not some toxic substance.

Corner View

One wonders about the architectural thought behind this building. The pointed end seems like wasted space, although I guess you could keep a broom there.

Just Enough

How much house do you really need? This tiny house has no hallway. You enter in the living room with the bedroom on the right, bathroom back right and kitchen back left. Margaret and Marty, my sister-in-law and her husband, lived in it when they were first married and going to college in Pittsburg, KS.

Treadmill Surgery

Howard and Stacy were able to replace the belt on the treadmill. Because its several years old, it seemed problematic but with perseverance they triumphed and Stacy is back running.

Why Are Americans Getting Fat?

Eating one of these giant rolls would certainly not help a diet plan. The pan is 8x8.
