Clean Up, Dog Walkers!

Apparently this homeowner has not been happy with the behavior of dogs walking on his property.

Ice Artisans

The winter ice fest on the Plaza involved an ice sculpture carving competition among chefs in the city. Melting was not a danger as a very cold wind prevailed in the shade of the tent. Observers did not linger.

Slow Children

We always laughed at these signs because we thought it sounded like slow children were playing.

Spring Planning

But for what clime? Cool and damp, hot and dry, a combination?

Sea Urchin

I love the color of this plant, just sitting among the dry leaves. I have no idea what it is but it reminded me of coral.

Apparently a new version of the speed bump.

Creative Addressing

These folks apparently didn't think a run-of-the-mill address on their house was appropriate. Not only is it huge, but they added an "Ohhh!!!" within the zero.

Night Fire

Gorgeous sunset.

New Windows

Part of the new windows going in at our house. Yesterday was a very cold day to have open air living.

Mark It

We reached Jan. 12 before measurable snowfall. Quite a change from a year ago.

How Does the Organ Work?

David Diebold, the minister of music, demonstrated how the organ works to a preschool class. The little girl with the askew headband thought it was too loud. I found it fascinating. For instance, playing the keys with more force does not change the output like it would on a piano. Who knew?

A Touch of Fantasy

When planning your garden, leave room for the fairies to dance.

The Capitol in Topeka shines in the night.

These Christmas trees wait to be mulched and spread on parks throughout the city.

Hidden Trail

It's hard to photograph, but in the distance you can see a trail, which I just discovered at 87th and Lamar. They tore down an old school and created a park with a shelterhouse and restrooms and an obvious trail out by the road but I discovered it goes back behind the houses. Not long but fun. I love a discovery.

All in a Pile

I suspect Zoe (center) was there first and the rest piled on.

How Much ...

hamburger does it take to make taco salad for a soup kitchen? A lot. These frozen tubes of it were thawing in preparation for a night's meal.

Obstruction

Walking can be difficult when people ignore the rules, like don't block the sidewalk. I'm always tempted to open the door, walk through the car, and out the other side, especially when they do it at an intersection, creeping up into the crosswalk.

Pistachios

One of the super foods I am trying to add to my diet.

Tin Santa

At least I think he is a Santa. My parents brought this to us some years ago, although I don't remember from where. We get him out every year.
