Catch Me If You Can

My niece, Grace (green shoes and black shirt) running in the state cross country meet at Rim Rock Farm north of Lawrence. A beautiful day and she was amazing.

Tree Hugger

This is the 35 foot sculpture outside the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Hayden is there to demonstrate its size. She decided to ad lib.

Tightwad

Not exactly the name I would choose when marketing a bank but, alas, it is named after the town - Tightwad, MO, population 63.

Floating Voice

This tombstone is in the Huron Indian Cemetery in downtown Kansas City, KS. It reads "Wyandotte National Burying Ground. Cursed by the villain that molest their graves." It was a stop on our ghost tour of KCK. Helena Conley (Floating Voice) fought to keep the burying ground, despite development all around it and attempts to develop a casino there. She even lived on the site for two years to protect it.

Stairs to Nowhere

It's so much fun to explore hidden passages. I found what used to be the stairs to the pulpit. Apparently in shoring up the foundation during a renovation they opted to close off this passage way but it remains hidden below!

Take Down

Tas doesn't have any idea how the ghost ended up across the room and underneath her.

Readability

If you use a font that can't be read from a distance, it does not make for a useful sign. Note below what the sign actually says.

A Ghostly Heirloom

My mother and I made this about 25 years ago from a pattern in a magazine. I've had various comments over the years from alien to KKK. It is unique.

A Different Kind of Wedding Cake

One of the dozen cakes made by family and friends for Lisa Smart's wedding on Saturday. Because she makes wedding cakes for a living, they decided this was a different way to go. Town Topic is of significance to the wedding couple. Lisa is pictured.

Fallen Stone

The fleur-de-lis looking sculptures atop some of the towers at the church are being taken down because they have eroded and may fall. You can see below where one was (note duct tape) and one still in place behind that. A capital campaign is in progress to replace the damaged spires.

Box Seats

The boxes in the Muriel Kauffman Theatre at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts provide their own shimmer. The Kansas City Ballet opens in the theater tonight. Yes, I finally got to see the center.

Urban Garden

Not your usual front yard in Mission Hills but there it is. Now that urban gardening is the trend, I guess it is acceptable everywhere.

Before the Dance

The exhibitor area of the Cerner Health Conference kicking off today at Bartle Hall. Stacy is project manager for the conference so she gave us a sneak peak while things were being set up. Looks to be impressive. She has certainly put a lot of time in on it.

Antietam Circle

The gazebo is part of Antietam Circle 1 in Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons. It was built in 1905 to provide a resting place for veterans, especially of the Civil War, by Antietam Post of the Grand Army of the Republic to enhance the section they had purchased in 1886. The cannons were donated by the war department. (I had to write an article about it when I was working for the Parsons Sun.)

Yikes

Escalator danger! At least no one was still attached to the shoe at this point. But the shoe was well stuck. They put up the barriers after they couldn't dislodge it.

His and Hers

The top mailbox says "His" in tiny letters. Would seem he thinks all the mail is for her.

The Chuck Wagon

I thought this little truck was adorable (probably not an appropriate description for a truck). It says Citroën F on it and a tag that indicates 1955 and France.

Window Coverings

If you don't want to buy curtains or blinds, just let the hedge grow over the windows. Seriously? Trim your bushes! And the house is on the market. Not a great selling point.
